It has a hole drilled down through the blade, form the V to a few inched above the toe.

Don't try that at home people!!  :(

Who borrowed it from baseball. There used be a massive US Air Force base near Huntingdon, and the servicemen would get HCB to modify their baseball bats. HCB applied this to cricket bats.

While I know this is quite an old topic, I've something new (old) to add! Here we have a Slazenger V1200 Super. As can be seen, it has the old V12 hump, but slightly elongated, along with a scalloped toe. With its massive 10mm edges this is another of those classics that people had forgotten about. It picks up surprisingly well, but as I've not yet had it in a net, I can't comment on whether it still works!

The bats you never had as a kid thread reminded me to post pics. I'd hazard a guess a few of those listed can be found in here, so have a drool over bats you longed for when younger...

Oh Tim... that V1200 is gorgeous. I'll be dreaming of that tonight.  :D

Time for another in this occasional series...

So tonight, we are adding a lovely old Hunts County Rapide. One of the more traditionally shaped Hunts County bats. This one weighs in at 2lb 9.8oz. As you can see, it's not a Grade 1 piece of willow, and doesn't have big chunky edges. It's pretty well balanced though. I'd say it either needs a great deal of knocking in, or it's not going to get much better. It has a very high pitched resonance and feels pretty plank like. I reckon it needs 10 hours or so with the mallet.

Anyway, here is this traditionally made and shaped bat, from England!

That would look lovely with a refurb.
BUT it is not worth risking the stickers

Hi Guys, I stumbled across this thread a while back when searching for vintage/retro bats on google... Although not often updated anymore, I find myself regularly checking in to see what offerrings the likes of tim2000's & 12man have to share! I am never disappointed. Many of these great bats were on my "wishlist" when I was a kid, or bring back memories from rummaging around in my dads teams gear bag pretending I was actually big enough to use them! I have a few bats myself collected/handed down over the years, most of them I don't know much about, any info on them would be awesome...

First up...

I echo Buzz's welcome, although I think this livery is a little early for Athers... ;)
