My new Chase 175 Beluga
« on: June 01, 2011, 01:07:39 AM »

My Brand New Chase 175 Beluga
£204.99 - 9-10 almost straight grains with no heartwood - 2lb 10oz

I decided to take a look at these bats for myself down at Fordham Sports and I was so impressed by it that I decided to buy it. The particular one I have has surprisingly not got an exaggerated oval handle which Initially I thought I would prefer, yet it feels just right. It has one of these swirl grips on it which may be influencing the degree to which I feel the oval handle. I went through about 35 bats at the shop ranging from Newbery to Salix to M&H to Puma to GN to GM to Mongoose and finally, after an hour and 20 minutes I fell for this one.

The bat specialist had his mallet out and was tapping each bat to see its response and this particular Chase outperformed some Newbery Thruxton Players and Puma 5000s. It certainly pings and I really feel if I prepare this bat well, that it should turn out to be a gun!!

Here are some pics, sorry for the poor quality of some of these, its off a blackberry 9700:

front of the bat

picture showing quite a high middle of the beluga profile

The Chase 175 looking beautiful next to my battered Kookaburra Kahuna and my borrowed GM Maxi 909

Don't think this picture does justice to how nice the grains are on this bat!

Here's a close up of the profile... you can see the bow here!

The back of the bat, showing no concaving

Another side profile showing the amazing bow and generally gorgeous profile of this bat

Modest edge width havent measured it exactly yet!!

I shall upload some more decent quality pics tomorrow! Really excited to get oiling and preparing!!

Hope people who havent been able to see these bats will benefit from this.

Jamie

oh... review to follow once prepared

I have a few teammates who use Chase bats as they are literally just down the road from our home ground. All have been very pleased with their purchases so I am sure yours will fly too!  :D

How high would you say the middle is compared to your others?

A good couple of inches i reckon, it makes a 2lb 10 bat feel a lot lighter!

Fordham sports in Kingston?

That's the one. Service was excellent, will definitely visit when I need a new bat again!

Did you try any of the bats at Colt next door? when I went in there he had a few Keeley pressed bats which were about £160 and seriously lovely...

Went to the Lords Show last year and Gary was showing me this model - I was impressed with it...the balance and feel were very good indeed!
Out of all the Chase models, this was definitely my favourite!
