Do you play accordingly to the bat?
« on: June 02, 2011, 09:00:18 PM »

I was always a slogger, I never played straight bat until this season and I did this because of all the bats I bought didn't want to misuse top end bats poorly.

Anyone else here feel pity for top end bats and refrain from slogging?

I have MB Malik Bubber Sher and LE so whenever I bat with them I am automatically slogging with them and they are the best bat for slogging in my opinon.

i think a bat can help make you play a certain way, but i wouldnt say that its because of the grade of wood.... i think it depends on weight and pick up

for instance if i was using a heavy bat id eb more liekly to go for teh big shots and if i was using a light bat id be more inclined to try and stroke the ball around

I would hope that most people play according to the ball they ate facing. That's what i (often unsuccessfully) try to do.

I try to stroke the ball no matter what ball or bat I am facing. On my home pitch, which is usually quite bouncy, my bat (which has a high middle) comes into its own. The leg side shots are effortless. but I often struggle on away matches that have slow pitches. if you slog on slow pitches and miss-time the ball or fail to find the middle, then unless you have a MASSIVE bat, you are a gonner! ;)

If you are thinking about the bat when you are batting you are thinking about the wrong thing.

No matter what I say here you will cry, but genuine advice, pick one bat and stick to it for the season. If you keep changing them up it is going to mess with your technique and timing. You'll be a better player for sticking to one and learning it, trust me. I also think you should concentrate more on basic technique rather than seemingly predetermining how you are going to play before you bat and choosing a bat accordingly.

To be honest it doesn't sound like your head is in the right place at all.

I bat more confidently this year than any other season, and I reckons its mostly down to my bat. I feel comfortable hitting over the top, and know that even if I mistime the ball the ball will still clear the fielder (And sometimes the boundary!)

Maybe I didn't sound well, I basically was asking does your playing style change with the bat?

I personally fear slogging with a 300 Pounds bat because it might break!

Maybe a better question is 'Do people use the English language correctly?'

Nope, but I was educated well and get increasingly annoyed at the destruction of our language.

Totally agree, feeling comfortable with all your kit, not just a bat, does remove any doubt from your mind when your batting and definitely improves performance. With the best gear, or at least the most comfortable you are only left with one thing to blame if you play poorly...........your own talent!

If I was that concerned about my bat when facing, I'd never get the ball off the square.

I only worry about playing at really wide ones in the nets.

I guess I shouldn't play them anyway - but I have hit the side of the nets with my bat once unfortunately!

The great thing in hitting is, not to be half-hearted about it; but when you make up your mind to hit, to do it as if the whole match depended upon that particular stroke.
