how to splice....
« on: June 07, 2011, 12:21:10 PM »

After having a go at some part mades in pretty keen on trying to handle one myself. Anybody got any ideas on how to set up a jig to cut the splice into the bat and handles. Is there a standard size for the splice or does it vary between makers? any info from either bat makers or those who have tried will be much appreciated. sorry if this has come up before. i have had a look but couldnt find anything.

Whatever size splice you cut into the blade make sure that the handle is cut the same, maybe a 1mm wider if possible.

No, each company who cut their own splices will have their own set up, very few brands make their own bats so you will be limited to who can give you the angle they use, try Matt at H4L as he may well be able to give you a technical answer.

Mike you said the other day that the handle V is wider than the splice?

Yes, but this is performed on a jig set up to make 100's of cuts a day, and it is only a fraction bigger 1/2mm bigger as stated in my quote.

Andy would also be able to tell you sizes but he is busy and tired I understand, I may have kept him up last night with my overnight service.....
