I am happy to put the rose tinted glasses on too...

Addington 1743 also issued a statement, saying: "We are a village team self-funded by the players. We have no official umpires [the players umpire the games themselves]. We knew that Amir was keen to get fit.

"We invited him to join us in order for him to get some practice. He did not stay for the whole game. Amir did not think that he was breaching his ban, nor did the club.

"We asked the league whether he could play and we were told that he could. Amir was very anxious not to violate his ban.

"If there has been any misunderstanding or breach of his ban it has occurred entirely as a result of the assurance that we gave him. If that assurance was mistaken we apologise to everyone."

I'm sorry, but as the chairman of the club, wouldn't you, given the opportunity to have a Pakistan International who has been banned from "all forms of cricket", call up not only the league, but get some representation from the ECB to make sure that the game wasn't under the jurisdiction of the ECB, before saying, "Come on then lad, have a game"? Seriously?

I'm sure it is "all forms of cricket regulated by ICC and ones that fall under ICC".

He can still play for private leagues anywhere in the world. He can play for private clubs in Pakistan, UK etc

Personally yes I completely agree with you, but that doesn't mean he was totally not allowed to play... I do think the guys at the league should have said no too.

What a shambles. Either way the Surrey Cricket league has a nice website http://www.surreycricketleague.co.uk/ and it does quote ECB playing conditions, but it does not say it is affliated to the ECB or to the Surrey Cricket Board.

I think it's "any cricketing related activities which are governed by the ICC or any of its members", in which case, with the Surrey League governed by the Surrey Cricket Board, which is governed by the ECB, he's in trouble. I say that it's governed by the ECB, as this can be found: http://www.surreycricketleague.co.uk/guideecbinfo.htm

Amir is banned from all forms of cricket and cricket related activities.
100 per cent the league should have said no,the club should have said no and he should have said no.The ICC regulation is pretty clear whether some leagues fall under their jurisdiction is a mute point...it might be a loop hole,it might not.
I actually feel sorry for Amir, plenty have done this before and not got caught-but he did and along with Asif and Butt he should serve his ban.
I play with a lot of Pakistan guys and have met Mohammed Sami and Saqlain Mushtaq who have visited our club in the last 2 years.
The Pakistan guys I play with know the players-and they said they are guilty as hell and should have got life bans.
That's their view,not mine....
Amir is a young man who has a chance to get his career back,he is fantastically talented but he broke the rules and he knows he did wrong

Asif and Butt no doubt should have been banned for life, Amir too as he did it.

It was Butt who had made Amir do all this.

It was Butt who had made Amir do all this.

What proof have you got of this? Surely he had the chance to say no. If he was getting threatened then there is such a thing called the ICC anti-corruption unit. He wasn't made to do it, he saw the opportunity of turning a quick buck and took it. Yes he took it to support his poor family blah blah, which is commendable but still against the law. It might well have been Butt's idea but all 3 went along with it. They've made their bed and should like in it.

i think you are 100 per cent right

Amir has been led by Butt and Asif, I know the Pakistan culture because I have played in a multi racial league for 20 years and my own team mates are indian or pakistani

The captain's instructions would have been followed exactly.A youngster would not question his captain.I'm 100 per cent sure a lot of the money they got would go back to their villages,Butt is from a well off family-Amir is not,he is from a poor background.

But they must all be punished for what they did, otherwise cricket will suffer in the future

but they are not the first to do this.......i think everyone knows that.

I totally agree with you, I am not disagreeing. Amir could have said 'no' but he didn't choose to do that.

I read that Asif told Amir "I have gone through more controversies than your age son"

Asif I think was not first timer while Amir was.

Amir and Asif are from very poor background while Butt has been well off, he has studied in good schools etc

johan do we know each other??  haha

Leo,standard is pretty good i would say

our side is in div1 now but only by default as the county league lost a club during the winter so we had to make up the numbers(barnet b's went bust)

i know most of the county league sides thou like highgate, acton etc

the middlesex championship has always been just below county league standards

the county league div 3(lowest) would still be better than our Div 1 standard I reckon..

ive played many games at Highgate and north london, nice grounds, good standard....

Haha you said Middx Championship, which I know teams like AP and Perivale are in. As your name is PPCC...opener...I guessed it was perivale pheonicians or whatever the name of the club is.
Only really put two and two together just now though :)
I play for Highgate, 2s/3s...
Never played Perivale though - side question do you know where Brentham 3s play anyone? Leo/ppcc I guess are best suited to answer... :)
