surely that's not a 3star?

Looks lovely if it is... how many bats have you got now?

I've been very impressed by the H4L bats, tbh their branding really put me off their bats to start with but pretty much every bat I have seen on here looks very nice and I may have to try one myself.

Silver star to Colesy - 38mm edges was right and the weight is 2'9 naked but stickered/gripped/scuffed I guess between 2'10-11 - but picks up well enough for me to be happy using and I normally prefer 2'7-9.

Special Gold Star to d7bow for recognising my special short (No Swearing Please) mod of a harrow size length.

I guess it's a devil because of the knot on the side - that's all. You'd have to ask Matt what it might of been, grade wise. I guess because the lines aren't that straight a 3 star going on comestics?

mattw - I've only got 3 bats, been buying cheap from jjb/ecb and selling on ebay, 2 adidas, 3 gm have helped me buy this and the kippax. I also have the dukes pro-century for net practise. I'd rather own 2 good bats I will use, than 10 average ones. The Kippax, like Lavers, takes alot of knocking in and isn't quite match ready, but it's 2oz lighter and better for opening the batting. While the H4L will mainly get middle/lower order biff rights and I can use it straightaway - I paid for it to be knocked in.

Big thanks to Matt for producing a great bat. I'll give an update at the weekend, if I get in!

Interesting that you went for the Harrow length blade. I'm wondering how long it is before the majority of bats sold will have the shorter blade.

I bought an Excel LE second hand off this forum at the beginning of the year & used it for the first time this weekend. It was unbelievably awesome - big thumbs up for H4L!!

I wouldn't read much into it. I'm all of 5'7 and according to GM I should be acadamy size.I'll always feel more comfortable with a slightly shorter blade. Combined with an SH, it suits me fine. I did get one of my bats chopped to an even shorter length a while back, but it felt like I was toeing everything combined with a SH - so imho there is a limit to the reducing the blade length. The kippax is the same length but with an LH, a normal kind of T20 spec.

I'm starting to wonder whether that will become normal, the SSH Blade, LH combi, as using bats made like that, it feels like you have more power!

I think a harrow/LH combo could help for a normal sized person. I don't fully understand "levers" but having a smaller head being swung through a longer shaft is one of the USP's for mongoose, isn't it?. The flipside of that is possibly a smaller hitting zone on the bat as the splice area is slightly lower down, but then again the redistributed wood around the middle may compensate for that.

Having used the Kippax in nets and the odd game, it does feel a bit like a long stick with a head on. This in part is because of the slightly thinner wavex handle. It was designed for bat speed by the Kippax guys and when you play shots it does feel like you've thrown the kitchen sink at it - even if you've played the shot in a controlled way.
