Nixon - grains lifting???

Not really sure how to describe this.  Bought a Nixon last year - probs around July - August time.  Oiled it, knocked it in.  Used in perhaps four games.  Got a crack in the toe about a month ago - took the hammer edge sheet off so as to assess the extent of any damage  (across the grain as described elsewhere on the forum (thankyou) with the use of hairdryer).  Not as bad as a first feared - glued the crack, gave the bat a light sand and re-oiled. 

Gave the bat a few minutes work with a mallet and the grains seem to be lifting / splitting??  Not really sure how to describe it.  Pictures as below.











What do people reckon?

Wish I could describe it in those terms Buzz.  Bat sadly seems to have no life in it.

My first reaction was that it looks as if it had got a little damp somewhere along the line, but I wasn't sure... has it?

I think it may have been a little under oiled at some stage - but then it doesn't look like it from the pics

Never exposed to any damp. Never been used in the wet.  Gave it three coats of oil over a couple of weeks last year before knocking in.  Its a strange bat really.  Guess when I say it has no life in it, suppose i'm also saying I have little confidence in it - cant seem to get the ball off the square.

Thats the kicker isnt it.  I have gotten it into my head that it might very well be a plank, QED it is a plank.  One thing is for sure - the wife isnt very pleased.  'Write to Nixon - if you wont I will'  :(  Not very pleased with me when I said I think I need a new bat...

Thats very kind of you Ciaran.  Based up in Boston, Lincolnshire.  I did actually make a purchase from Mr Brimble three weeks ago, lovely  bat.

this is best way to do it.

when ever me or fletch fall out with a bat with have a net with it and then like stfu its a right weapon lol

Will offer it up on Saturday for some of the lads to have a go with.

As for the 'I need a new bat syndrome' - cured that by buying a new bat :D

Problem is, every time a see a new bat on here i get the 'I want a new bat syndrome'
