Seam marks
« on: June 24, 2011, 12:54:09 PM »

I used my new bat yesterday in the nets and it left a shed load of seam marks over the face. It had been knocked in by m and h, so should be ready to go. Should I spend some more time with the mallet or what? I'm earring on a new hammer edge sheet so will that make any difference? Cheers for the help in advance.

I would definitely give it a bit more knocking in! In my experience I have yet to receive any bat that was 'ready to go' from a maker, even after spending extra at the time of purchase for it to be knocked in.  I think it's a false economy, I mean, how much time are they really going to spend doing it? Unless they have a sweat shop full of illegals all hammering bats with mallets then it's never going to be done properly!

The m&h I had left seam marks and was fully knocked in. On my laver, they have knocked it in and told me to expect seam marks.

But if your getting 'a shed load all over the face' then I would say the blade is still soft so some extra knocking in will do it no harm at all. It will prolong it's life and increase performance if you can harden it up a little.
