Hi guys,

One of my teammates' bats has a split toe, its only been used for a couple of games but despite this, the company he bought it from refused to repair/replace it.

I told my teammate I would repair it for him, and I have some ideas on how to do this but I just thought I'd ask the experts for their views on what to do.

Here are pictures of the bat, any help is much appreciated.

to be honest it will not last long now but lamitoe and a lot of tape would hold it for a bit !

Similar to whats happened to my Talisman, lots of glue and tape would be the best bet. Always difficult to glue the crack as you worry about opening it up too much

Open it up and pump plenty of glue in, then bind. It really should be replaced though if it's under warranty and bought from a genuine retailer.

Not sure it would. It's the kind of damage that a retailer may very well say is caused by not knocking in properly... thus stopping them needing to replace it.

Personally I would try to refrain from opening it up too much as the wood may break off - the lamitoe idea might work the best, then you can glue it from the inside once you have cut the line fore the insert.

Looking forward to seeing what you do with this - I have to admit it doesn't look good - possibly a rather short life expectency...

No amount of knocking in will stop splitting in that area, it's just one of those things, repair is always the first port of call for warranty work but I think anything done to it will just prolong the inevitable.

You would need to do it carefully obviously, not sure how cutting through the toe wouldn't run at least the same risk as opening it up.

Lamitoe wouldnt do anything I dont think, they are purely to prevent cracks from going all the way through the bat (like this one has).

stick a huge dowel though it made my county last the last year and  a bit

get a extra thin but long lamitoe insert but it would only give a bit of protection but most of the lamitoe i have used have split but not the bat

got to agree with leo lamitoe will give it some extra life but it could go ball one

well i had a bat with a similar crack and i had a lamitoe inserted and it lasted but tbf my mate had it and i don't know where it is but it was used in around 2 nets and 3 games and was fine

First I'd try and just glue it, and tape it, you don't need miles of tape! If it holds all well and good, if not then I'd try a dowel, I think 2 in fact.

I'm not sure a laime toe would help that much...

I recently fixed a GM, which was much worst than this, and its fine now.... and I have fixed a number of bats with cracks like this, sometimes just glue them, some times dowels are needed.
