cricket bat handle shaping
« on: June 29, 2011, 10:27:58 AM »

my journey starts here, I am looking to recreate a cricket bat I used back in the 90's. yes that old. It was a salix royal best bat I have ever used. It had the best oval handle I've used. Bradbury & Newbery have got very close but  I would like to ask a few questions to anyone ITK.

If I had a handle made for me, could I use it over and over again by inserting in different blades???
Are oval handles pre-shaped and bought by  bat makers or  are they all round and shaped by bat makers??
what are the chances of having a box of oval handles sent to me so I can pick which one I want?
Are there any bat makers within  an hours drive of Hinckley Leicestershire that I could visit who could shape a handle for me???

Thanks in advance for any info supplied.

in most cases with the custom companies on here you can request specific handle shapes.

you can reblade a handle, but typically it isn't worth it.

If you are trying to get something similar to what you had on the Salix, it will help to have the old bat to copy...

i would suggest sending the bat for somebody to copy, there are plenty around that will do this for you.

With regards to a company reasonably close to you, i would imagine hunts county bats is around an hour from you.....

good luck with your quest!

thanks for your comments, I dont have the bat to hand, it broke in half last game of the season I had it and I threw it away. Silly mistake!! I have not tried to contact salix but I will try them now.

You never know, someone here might just have a Royal that they might just let be used to copy, for a small fee of course... ;)
