large bark mark on grade 1 bat
« on: July 10, 2011, 08:08:41 AM »

morning
just received a pod 1 grade 1 off ebay, brand new.on the back of the bat is a bark mark where the wood has gone bad.i doubt it will affect the bat but wondered has it could be a grade one,it's not a rouge it's labelled grade1 with the new salix stickers
no photos on the bark mark were on the advert and i now cant contact the seller.it was discounted but the mark looks like a large burnt knot.very unusual and not overly pleased

do they now class grade ones as non blemish free willow

any thoughts welcome

It would be a shame if this bat is a fake as Salix make superb cricket bats and do not really need this blemish on their 20+ year old name.

im going to try to link some pics, not 100 per cent sure how to do that

it's def not a fake,ive had a few salix's and it's genuine

i guess sometimes they are graded on performance not looks

but that's news to me.the rouges salix sell off are cosmetically not quite right but this is a pod grade 1 with pod stickers.
i guess im just surprised

let me try and post the pics, ive got some just not sure how to upload

thank you

Must be a fake. If anyone @ Salix applied these stickers they should be shot.

my bat has 2 marks like that on the back and it still performs brilliantly, before you get too concerned, I would try using it.

failing that call salix and ask them about it.

thanks Buzz
i will do just that
it feels and rebounds like it will play just fine.

i dont know why you get these marks, ive seen some before called 'pin' marks but they have been very small

there's nothing wrong with grading on performace rather tahn looks, just never seen this before from the likes of salix or newbery etc..

Apparently Salix are strictest in the market when it comes to grading.

But then they say bats are graded on face not back ?

maybe cover drive

you may well be right there i dont really know

the face of the bat is immaculate, about 15 straight grains-all white

i think with hindsight ive bought a rogue with grade 1 stickers on it,why it has grade 1 stickers, not rogue ones is beyond me
