SS Platinum or Puma Platinum 2011
« on: July 14, 2011, 11:41:45 AM »

I bought some SS Paltinum pads off of Kinsgrove a couple of months ago, but the velcro on the strap has started to come off plus the stichting that holds the inner padding in has come off in one corner, so they said  no worries and told me to send them back so they can send out a new pair.

Now I am faced with a Dilema, stay with the SS Platinum or wait a couple of weeks and go with the Puma Platinum's I saw yesterday, which looked really good, but I don't know much about puma pads apart from the 6000's I had a few years ago. What do you reckon, stick with the SS or go with the Puma's?

Here are the Puma's

The SS Platinums are last years mode and are effectively the same as the Test Opener which all the pro's seem to use.

Those pumas are the same as the evo 5000 we had last year. A mate has some and they are nice.

However, our puma pads come up a little bigger than other men's pads

So you reckon they would be good?

I'm 6'1 and seem to have long legs, so that shouldn't be a problem.

From what I understand the puma softs are made by ss anyway so really you are down to a decision about branding/labels and cost

And design. And materials. And protection.

Just because SS make the pads doesn't mean they're exactly the same. Or anywhere similar.

My bad, have to admit most of the direct comparisons I have seen first hand were between newberry and ss rather than puma and ss.

I'm 6'1 pushing 6'2. It mig just be that I had got comfy in kookaburra pads which are sized smaller than puma

I had a look at the last years Scultura Reserve in last season's GCCC catalogue and they are effectively the same pad, except for the Platinums being grey and white, raher than gold and white and also have a different name. I think I'll go to GCCC and try them on and see what they are like, as they are basically the same pad, then I'll see which ones I'll get.
