random orbital sander
« on: July 14, 2011, 10:13:02 PM »

Does anyone know whether a 150mm random orbital sander will negotiate the concaving on a bat. I'm aware soft pads can be attached but can't decide if they would accommodate the curve from shoulder the spine. Does anyone know?

Not easily. You have to hold it at an odd angle and it doesn't work that well. A belt saner is slightly better because you can get close to the curves. You will end up doing the sanding finally by hand though.

By hand has been the most successful so far but those small scratches are always a nightmare to get rid off. I may try some different brands and grits of sandpaper. Thanks

Even by hand you have to go through the different grades of paper so it does take a bit of time!

If you use tri-rite m3 sand paper or try to get hold of SIA foam sanding pads 180 grit (because of the foam they finish 240+) and they leave little or no scrathes!
