Bowled of my pads
« on: July 17, 2011, 05:56:55 PM »

My last two dismissals have come from me being bowled off my pads in identical fashion.

The first one i out down to tiredness at the end of a long innings but today i was out in the exact same way 14 overs into the match.

Basically the bowler is bowling off a couple of steps and then firing the ball right up into the block hole, i'm waiting for it, leaning into the shot and trying to flick it into the mid wicket region. I miss the ball, it hits my back leg and then deflects onto the off stump.

Anyone have any thoughts on this or is it just bad luck?

Maybe i should be playing an on drive, getting inside the line so it will hit my front pad .... the ball is going down leg .........or should i just dig it out.

i would suggest the ball is a bit straight to be whipping and try and play the ball back straight through mid on....

should the ball not be hitting my front pad??? maybe i am opening out my front leg too much.

i do agree that i should be on driving it, rarely play that shot. im quite weak to leg side bowling, often just hits my front leg.

anyone got any tips?

its difficult to say withoput actually looking at your set up/ technique.....

i would think that the ball is probably also a bit full to be whipping early on!!! do you stay still at the crease or trigger?

i think on these two balls i triggered my back foot back and across. that may be the reason why i was "open" so the ball was able to miss my front pad and fire into the back leg.

I am used to facing fast bowling but the standard im at this season is a lot slower 75mph max.

I get the feeling that im just planting my front foot and swinging at leg side ball, all while toppling over the offside.

i did notice today that after my trigger movement i am crouching down quite a lot ........... is this a bad thing?

edit......... i have a couple of pictures of me batting last yar, how do i upload them. there is a leg side shot on there but the ball wasnt as full as these two.

is your triger a 2 foot movement or just a back foot movement?

why are you crouching more this year?

what position are you starting in and on what guard?

sorry for all the questions!

bat on middle

back and across as the bowler jumps

i think i have always crouched a bit but today i noticed it when the bowler ran up and then just didnt bowl .... i was in a still position but slightly crouched, never really noticed this before

im bang on form this year with the runs but i dont like to be out the same way too many times. Prior to this recent run i am rarely bowled, usually caught.

I am just interested in why this is happening and would like some feedback from other sources. im the coach of our team so no one can really give me any advice from our team, they clalimed it was a great inswinging yorker but i wasnt convinced.

appreciate everyone's feedback.
