Long handle/blade difficulties
« on: July 30, 2011, 08:40:05 PM »

I recently bought an lh/lb bat and am really struggling to get to grips with it. After using sh in all my senior cricket, is this perhaps normal and something I need to work on or if it doesn't feel right straightway, should I go back to sh? Any tips and advice would be greatly received.

I would give it a while, I went from SH to LB and it felt odd for a few sessions, maybe try standing a tad taller in your stance?

hi sorry, haven't been around as much.

the thing about changing a bat that much is that it will take some getting used to as you are changing your whole set up.

not that that will help you. I'll think about it and see if anything constructive comes to mind

Hi Nick, apologies for not responding sooner.

How tall are you? I find at my height, the additional length means my stance is better and less bent over, and that the bat has more of the middle in the right place.

It is different at first. The bat is balanced differently, so you will take a while to get used to it. I'd suggest a fair bit of netting with it would be wise, as what I've found is that although I bat better with the lb lh, I can comfortably use an sh.

Goods luck with the practice!

I'm nearly 6'5" so its probably the right sized bat for me, it just feels very odd at the moment. Need to put in some hard hours with it I think. I already have an almost trescothick style stance in the way I stand tall.

It's all better now boys, had a good net with it last night and it feels much better. Made a few changes to my setup including a smaller bat lift, taller stance, and it felt lovely... Tim you know how to pick a good bat mate lol  :D

I tell a lie, it's not all better. I don't like it, I don't like cricket and I certainly don't like batting anymore. Going up for sale in the morning I reckon!!!  >:(

Why did you change to a new bat?

Try chocking down on the bat handel. Might help the transition.
