I had been speaking to Matt for a short while via email about getting a Hattori and this beauty arrived early this morning. The customer service from Matt was excellent, he promptly replied to my emails and he asked me to send him my specs for the bat which were:

Weight: 2.9 finished with a single chevron
Sweetspot: Mid-low
Pick-up: Light
Handle: Oval
Grains: 10-12 if poss (all sapwood or some Heartwood on RHB outside edge.

And this is what I received:












I went for a little lighter in weight to the normal weight I use (2.10) to allow for a slightly heavier pick-up due to having a lower middle than my other bats. There is a lot of willow for 2.9 but it picks-up beautifully and is so well-balanced. Not having a bat with a lower middle before, I was a bit unsure about how it would feel in the hands but it feels superb.

In terms of the middle - it's not knocked it yet, but it responds well to a mallet and initially feels that it has quite a long middle extending up the blade but time will tell the more it is knocked in.

Cheers guys. Done about 20 mins of knocking-in with a mallet so far and it's flying already. Just tapped an old ball up off the face to see how it responds and the middle is massive!

Sold the Newb GT custom which paid for most of it! Have moved from opening to 5/6 in the order so needed something with a bit bigger profile

Loving the look of that bat. Profile looks great but a low middle wouldn't suite me as wristy player who cuts and pull a lot. The more I see of H4L the more tempted I am to get one.

I pull and cut as well and so didn't want a very low middle so asked Matt for a mid-low middle. The middle is long and extends quite a way up the blade past the point where I look to strike the ball to pull or cut so it shouldn't be an issue for me. I'm not much of a wristy player though.

Definitely recommend H4L. This is the second I have owned after briefly owning a 666 as well. Both are cracking bats.
