England Lions v Sri Lanka A
« on: August 15, 2011, 08:51:16 PM »

Went to the game at New Road, Worcs yesterday. High hopes of a strong England performance after racking up over 300 against them on Friday. Really looking forward to seeing Hales, Taylor, Stokes and Bairstow bat as all seem to be pushing for call ups to full squad.

What a disappointment! 16-5 then 27-6 with all top order out after 13 overs. Match was effectively all over. Top 6 out to Prasanna's leg spin which highlights that English county players struggle against a turning ball. Why do so many of our players struggle against spin?

Good recovery after the last game i would say, still lost the top 3 in quick succession but JT anchored the innings and him and Stokes put on a fair few before Harris chipped in as well.

The lads in great form. Seems to be a class act in all forms of the game as well. For me, I am still unsure why we keep going back to Bopara, the guy has only played well against the West Indies, and everyone else he has pretty much flopped against. I guess it's a case he can bowl a bit, but I think Taylor should have got the nod in these last two tests. But at the very least he should get a one day call up.

Agreed that England should start phasing Taylor into the ODI set up - surely in terms of an out-and-out batsman he's the next cab off the rank.

Good to see Kegsy get a Lions call up, and some wickets yesterday too!

Was having a look at the ODI team against Sri Lanka, and with them having - Cook, Kieswetter, Trott, KP, Morgan, and Bell - as the out and out batsmen in the team, I think he'd only displace Bell at the minute in terms of ability on the one day game. But taking current fitness into account, if Trott isn't going to be fit for the ODIs, then I feel they should give Taylor the nod to replace him and give the lad his chance.
