Id go with cork as rubber would be heavy....hard to tell though as the pic isnt very big

looks like a honeycomb material (like the hunts county modulus). I've seen the middle cut out before, but never with a material behind the laminated area.........would this improve performance???

its a fair way into the blade too. . . . at least a couple  of cm's. . ..
