Net training set up
« on: August 23, 2011, 05:00:43 PM »

Evening all, wanted to pick your brains.

My club has just been relegated for the second time in 3 years. We have one of the best bowling line ups in our current division but our batting has really let us down with scores of 130, 79, 107, 77, 84, 136, 127. Our highest score was 214 in our very first game! We did lose our best bat this year as he moved to Exeter (if anyone is in that area let me know and I might give you his details as he isn't currently playing!) but we should still have had the ability to put more runs on the board than we have.
Our second team also looks like being relegated with a similar issue with their batting.

I believe that we need to net with more intensity and purpose if we are to stop the rot so I wanted to know how other clubs run their net sessions e.g. number of sessions, training drills, equipment used and any other help you might be able to offer.

Have you considered the fact that with really good bowlers, the Batsmen are getting put off during the nets sessions?

Our team are sh!te from batting to bowling so we are going to look into getting a coach to come to our nets and help us out.

Which team do you play for in Bristol?

I don't think it is that, to be honest half of the bowlers don't show up and that leaves batsmen doing the bowling which is never good!

What coach are you looking at? Any idea what the cost is?
Play for Frampton Cotterell, pretty low standard already and desperate for it not to get any lower!

Yeah we play in same league, div 4 tho. Our best bowler dislocated his shoulder in 2nd game of season & our best batsmen quit cause he wasn't happy with the captain. Dismal season.

My brother knows a player from Bristol W.I who has played to a high standard. We are hoping he may come to our nets to help coach. Not sure how much it may be, but should be reasonable tho.

Hengrove, we are bottom. Can't get a team. We have 9 for this Saturday so we are playing but we have 7-8 regulars so we have been cancelling games. Desperate need of new players for next year or we we will have to fold.

That would be a shame, never good to lose local clubs.

Well that's got to be a big part of your problem then - batsmen need to practice against the best bowling they can.

Do you have access to a bowling machine

sounds like one of our training sessions. we had 4 up last night (3 batters and one filler inner (no offence Pete)). so just got the bowling machine out but theres nothing better then facing real decent bowling i think.
