Right after a miserable season with the bat I have come to the conclusion it's gotten too light after a few refurbs and has lost it's real performance. So I am like a lot of you looking for a new blade for next season.

I'll give you a bit of background about my batting style and I want to see what bat shape suggestions you make. I'm not fussed for brand or price so that won't sway me but I am looking for something about 2:12 ish when dressed with either a single grip with thick spiral handle or two if the handle is not that thick. I am about 6'2 and a good rugby prop build!

Love to play in the V particularly hitting hard and going over the top. Never shy away from the cut and pull either. Most pitches I play on there is a bit of bounce but combined with the bowlers I face very few that get the ball around your throat (unlike this weekend when I feathered a bouncer offa my glove to the keeper!).

Looking forward to seeing what bat shapes and bats you think I should buy next, if you want any more info let me know.

It depends what your comfertable with as I use a custom shape as I like to drive but love to pull/hook but I play mostly on a slow low wicket if yours has some bounce I'd say the gm icon shape would be good as can drive but middle not ultra low

I certainly like to give the ball a whack but I'm as happy playing a more defensive innings. Batting mid order means that I either have to hit out in the last few overs or come in after a collapse

Is there a pattern in the way you get out? If its lbw or bowled then less relevant

but are there any particular shots that result in you getting caught? And if so in what fielding positions? I have a similar shot selection to yours and bat at #3. I found I was getting out caught at long on or deep mid-on, invariably toeing the ball, and therefore switched to bats with lower middle and thick toe. I can adjust the horizontal bat shots which are penalised by this shape but absolutely need to have the confidence of clearing the straight boundaries if its in my hitting zone.

I'm in the same position you were in before mate, always hitting the toe in a lofted drive and getting caught on the boundary. Do you mind me asking which bat you use now? I'm looking for a M&H S6 (low middle), I am also very strong on the pull/hook so was wondering whether it would affect those shots?

kenbirooo, I play a very similar to you (except for cuts- my worst shot) and I have been looking at bats with low middles such as the s6 or solution from m&h

THe M&Hs you mentioned should work well. Or if you can get a custom made in the popular Sachin profile that should be fine too. Try out a team mate's bat if you get a chance before splurging! The hook would be affected for sure. I don't hook much but I do pull quite a lot and I had to adjust it to play a bit earlier than usual.

I have been out most ways this season, but I have been caught twice close in by getting leading edges very low off the outside edge both times in the same part of the bat trying to push the ball in to the legside. But thats probably more technique I was wondering if my light bat was meaning I am through the shot to quick. That might explain why so many of my cut shots go in front of square?
