Hi all,

I'm going to be in the market for a new pair of pads for the 2012 season. I know it's a long way off but I'd like to get a feel for what people look for/feel is necessary in a good pair of pads.

All suggestions welcome, and any actual pads too.

I use a pair of Morrant Ultralites for batting and love them. Has anyone had experience with their keeping pads?

Comfort and aesthetics for me. If I'm wearing them for 50 overs a time they have to be comfortable. Have a look at te TLB range

I used the adidas pro wk pads this season. Only thing that annoyed me was the bottom of the pads were quite square across, which sometimes I would catch the other pad. Only pair I've ever used so probably not much help to you. If you have a shop near probably best to try a pair to see which you like. Ideally comfort has to be your main priority, unless your fashion conscious!

i agree. i like to wear mine pretty low aswell so nice if they have a decent arch to them to enable to to push them down. tend to push them down everyball before crouching. dont know why just my way of getting ready so they have to be pretty hard wearing around the arch 2. i currently use a pair of Probats pads which are a little on the small side (im just over 5 10 so not that tall) but suit how i like to wear them. Believe after other discussion on here they are made by RS.

The good thing is you have plenty to choose from.

I used willostix anaconda pads lads year and they are very light and comfy however do have a silver lizard on the front with is a bit loud,
i usually look for traditional lookin pads with a big arch as i tend to wear them very low, used to have a pair of G & M nixon pads and they were awesome!

Although they've had great reviews I'm not sure about the look Shazz, I prefer the more traditional style. I think I'll try them on before deciding though. I do use Puma gloves and they're excellent. Just find the look of the pads a bit robocop like?

Thanks for your help everyone. I agree that lightness and comfort is probably the number one feature. I use an old pair of GN Millenium pads but they're pretty beat up now.

Best thing to do is pop along to the local shop and try some on I think!

until this season i was still wearing an old pair of slazenger youth size WK pads that i've had for about 10. i'm 6 foot 2!

they were so light and small, i only retired them when the strap broke. i now have a pair of Gray Nicolls Xiphos which are so light and soft it's untrue. the only complaint is that the knee roll is quite flexible and tends to flap about.

but yeah, lightness, softness and comfort.

I find they're all much of a muchness. You'd have to work pretty hard to find a pair that would ruin your day, and you'd have to have a similalry tough job to find a pair that had any material improvement on your game. It's not exactly a product of significant innovation, hell even Aero struggled to release something that differentiated them!

I'd advise buying an inexpensive pair from a reputable manufacturer and spend your time better like worrying whether 11 or 12 grains give a better rebound or if the cow used to make your pittards gloves was fed on the right kind of diet and of the right blood type

No worries. I'm not a beginner with no clue, I've been keeping for quite a while, just thought I'd ask for some opinion in case I missed something obvious.

I've just picked up a pair of brand new GM Paul Nixon Original pads from eBay for �20 (RRP �60) including postage.

Just opened them this morning. They're very light and very comfortable - they feel quite small compared to my GN one's but that's no problem.
