"I'll have one of those please sir!"
« on: September 07, 2011, 12:14:32 PM »

With the 2011 season ending, (unless you're just starting your season down-under) I get the sense that most people are already thinking and planning what to use for next season.
As you know, I am a BAT person (no (No Swearing Please) sherlock!) and wondered about a few issues:

1. What match bat they plan to use for 2012
2. What bat would you get if money was absolutely no object?
3. Are there any other brands/models you're tempted by?

I'll start the ball rolling!

1. Undecided as yet (sorry for the cop out but will decide after more netting!)
2. A L&W Signiture. Or possibly a custom made from Laver or Millichamp
3. New GN bats seem to be quite meaty these days so maybe an Oblivion or E41. But I guess I am waiting with interest to see what some of the Custom boys and other brands will release for 2012!  8)

1. TLB Cricket ;) (Well I have to don't I!)
2. A bit like Mr Hosk I would go for a L&W, something a little special.
3. Solitaire Cricket. I know this doesn't seem very exciting, and yes I've read all the reports on weight issues, but a custom made bat for £120 seems a steal! Some of the photos of the bats he has made as well look excellent.

1. One of Laver Heritage, SAF, Instinct or H4L for 45 over matches. Need to net to make a decision. SpiriT20 and or Lekka Big Hitta for T20. Use the heavier, woodier bats in the shorter form of the game when I am not looking to play quite so straight (cough!) ;)
2. I'd try and go direct to one of Keeley, Laver, Norbs or Matt to see who could give me the best looking, best performing weapon, whatever it cost...
3. SG and other Indian brands (until I know what GM are going to come out with). Would also look at Redbacks as seen some lovely ones.

1) I can see myself ditching the Ayrtek and going back to the Talisman when it gets back from repair. Just not sure if I like the concaving on the Ayrtek, although it is 2oz lighter.

2) Probably a Laver and Wood, but would have to be a normal handle and a shape exactly the way I want it.

3) Kookaburra's look quite nice to me at the moment, particularly the Kahuna which would match my softs!

Also Pete, the Ice pads went to a team mate. Sorry, but he really need them as his were falling apart after many years

1: either my new TK special or the SAF bat arriving this week (fingers crossed ;))
2: Money is no object with the bats I buy, so see above!!!
3: yes there are lots of bats with lovely stickers, but I like to use the bats I have so I wont be buying for a while... edit: actually I would like one of SillyShilly's bats at some stage too...

1. H4L Hattori most likely. However I may be tempted by a new blade over the winter so who knows.

2. L&W Signature

3. GN Oblivion, Newbery, Black Cricket, SAF, Instinct, Redback GM. All brands I have never got round to using but would like too.
