£80 Millet Sports CCX 450 LB
« on: September 16, 2011, 06:41:13 PM »

With the Millet Sports Sale on I thought I'd take a punt on one of their supercheap Kooks. In the event, I went with this, a CCX 450 LB.

On the website you can't specify a weight, so I opted for a Lightweight version of this bat. The resulting item is in the pictures below. It had to be ordered from the Kook warehouse as they didn't have any in stock, but to be fair, I'm not going to complain for £80. It's not a bad model, but equally not the best looking. It seems to bounce off the mallet really, surprisingly well and do so over a considerably longer area of the face than I was expecting.

It picks up okay, around about its weight, and I think it might actually be quite fun to use, even if it does have a lot of concaving. What is slightly odd is that this model has very rounded edges on both the front and the back, for what reason I'm not sure, and I think the killer for me is the "Big Edge" stickers on an edge that is less than the fpote measure...

I won't tell you the weight just yet, but here's the bat! See if you can guess what it might weigh in at...

2lbs8 - given it is a long blade, this looks a remarkably similar piece of willow to my kook, albeit with a different shape.
how is it off the mallet?

I'm really surprised with the mallet test and can't wait to use it in a net!

How many bats do you own now tim. You seem to be collecting quite a few

A fair few, although match-worthy numbers only 7. The remainder are all what I class as vintage and therefore past true full match potential. They are saved for a couple of specific uses and more importantly, display in the future.

For those interested, this weighs in at 2lb11oz. Not really lightweight. I've been knocking it in a bit today though, and it's truly lovely off the middle. Almost up there with the laver ! The balance is also very good, so I'm tempted to get a second as for 80 notes this really does seem like an absolute bargain!
