In Conclusion.............. What do You Make of Your Season
« on: September 22, 2011, 09:41:24 PM »

Hmmm, very poor year. Lost complete confidence in my left-arm spin, and had a really poor year.

Right at the end of the season, I think I worked out a grip and run-up to allow to bowl some Samit Patal 'sliders' for next year.

On the plus side, I captained a bit this year and nurtured a couple of really promising youngsters through this year. Also, thanks to Uncle Buzz's special sessions I discovered I really like batting and I have the potential to make a few violent 30's or 40's from the middle order next year.

Well Brucey...

I dislocated my finger in the 2nd game of the season, which did me in a bit. And I got underused for a while on Sundays which wound me up! However, in a few games I genuinely ragged it square with my SLA's (steak, leek and ale...) and took a few wickets. Only had a best of 4-22, mainly because I dropped 11 (yeah, you read it right, eleven...) caught and bowleds! Out of 11! Not good. My fielding when NOT bowling, however, was superb, took some really good outfield catches, 2 run-outs, and saved more runs than I can remember at backward point and on the boundary! The batting improved, managed to score 180 runs in 14 innings, with a bunch of nots outs, including an obdurate 28* off 90 balls (because I'm a (No Swearing Please) like that when I bat. I am THAT guy. Haha) but looked like scoring more runs, the tail just folded around me!

Should be back from France by end of April, and at a new club on a Sunday (as a result of the aforementioned lack of bowling) where my mates from my old club now play, and a top lad as captain so I SHOULD get bowled more! Looking forward to it, a winter in France with just the slopes for company will have got me ready for the season!

Despite getting 5-19 and 114 my season was a failure. Got 300 less than last year averaging 10 less and not enough wickets.

Disappointing. Despite a decent season batting in the top 4 in 2010, I found myself down at 6-7 for a large part of the season. By the time I'd fought my way back up the order my form deserted me. Didn't bowl as much as I would have liked, though to be fair opportunities were limited mostly due to our opening and first change bowlers blowing most teams away.

Finished with batting average of 23 and bowling average 10, so respectable on paper.

Average season, Around 200 odd runs and 20 odd wickets (including friendlys) with about 20-30 dropped catches, so I'm nearly averaging around a dropped catch per game. It has been a fustrating season batting wise as I've been made to bat at around 8-10 for most of my matches when I know I'm a capable batsmen, I've had quite alot of not outs so my friendly average is around 50ish(not 100% sure as not all friendly matches get uploaded to play cricket).

Had a great season in the end after a slow start, turning point was prob against colseys lot when i bagged a 50. Went on to score my 1st tonne for my Saturday side (even though i have played for them for 14 years now) as well as my 2nd a few weeks later on. Got pushed up the order for 6/7 to a consistent number 4 and if i hadnt been for my 2 ball duck last game of the season my average would have been 115.....sadly it dropped to 96 after that!

Just shy of 600 runs in the league which is alot better than last years 330 i got!

As a team we won the T20 plate and edged the league title as well on the last day of the season to claim the clubs 1st Division 1 trophy in its 130 yr history.

Not a bad season. Far too many starts without going on to get the big score. 5 or 6 80+ not out scores either ran out of partners or most were batting second so run out of something to chase. end up on about 1600 for the season. Slightly better than last year but below my target. averaged around 54
First full year keeping in about 5 years. really enjoyed it and amongst the silly mistakes i took 35 catches and about 19+ stumpings including the best nixonesque catch ive ever done. Also got smashed in the face keeping and dislocated/fractured my thumb. can still pull it out a bit which is fun lol. Carried on keeping with it strapped up and it settled down luckily(prob a bit silly). still a bit sore.
team wise we finished 4th on sundays which is better than fighting for survival like the last couple of years and after a poor second half on saturdays we missed out on promotion by 7 points.

My season was terrible, First year of captaining our sides and I struggled with it, Keeping people happy, Getting 11 blokes  >:(
My bowling was not too bad, but batting, I could bat time but couldnt score runs, Have changed my match bat for next year so hoping to get that illusive (sp?) 1st hundred!
Downer of the season was getting 43 batting  at 5 on a bad track and being dropped to 8 for the next week.....

Giving up the Saturday (unofficial) Captaincy, But continuing with Sudays and Midweek 'kippering.

Not bad but not great - 1250 at 45 for my club, 600 at 100 in various midweek games - but didn;t really kick on as I would have liked, made a lot of nice 70s where I used to run up 100+

Average would best describe me season - 350 ish runs (no 50's but got a ton) and 25 wickets.  Not helped by the fact it always seems to rain on a Friday night in Bristol so the wickets were never hard and dry!!!

To sum it up in 3 words: Hit and miss.
Season targets: To improve wicket keeping to first choice, and get my first half ton.
Result: Became club #1 with a drastic improvement from last year, and a top score of 49no.

first game got 33 with lots of cover drives, felt really good had some nice form.
then my bat went back for about 4-5 weeks which threw me off my rythm.
few good scores mixed with some bad low scores, threw my wicket away so many times when had time to get myself in.
I feel like I need to run 5 or 6 phrases in my head to prepare myself before going out then imbetween each ball (play each ball as its bowled, straight bat, front foot forward) would play much better with our skipper (very good batsman) at the other end just because we would talk to each other about our batting situation which I guess kept me at ease.

49no was a great innings which included taking 28 off the last over, 19 of which were mine. wasnt fussed about not getting the half ton at the time but it bugs me more now!

missed alot of games to the middle of the season which rocked my form, and nobody wanted to net or train which i wanted to do.

wicket keeping: first game of season apart from a missed stumping was really good, stood up to a fast bowled and was taking the ball nicely, unfortunately our home pitch is unpredictable bounce so standing up is very difficult. Another reason why I wish to train but dont get the support.

Took a lovely diving catch to my left, and in my left paw while on tour in newcastle, the batsman was on 99. 2nd slip said I had stolen his catch (ego+1)

was my 3rd season playing cricket (age 23 at end of season) and ive gone from a fringe player to first choice and in with the lads (great feeling! we are #1 for banter outside and inside our team)

Have now moved down south and need to get my kit down here and find a club, would net 7 days a week if I had the oppourtunity! gotta save some money though as club membership is 800% on what I was paying at home!
Cant wait for next season, hope to do lots of wicket keeping drills and work my way into a side as a wicket keeper (always difficult)

Also won a bronze medal at the UK corporate cames for Cricket 8s, but we lost some bad games due to captain selection. (we had 9 players, 2 WK, rather than upset his other WK he would field and bowl me. 3 overs no maidens or wickets 49 runs (awaiting England call up) although I repeatedly told him I'm not a bowler (slower than slow right arm leg spin or seam up, 5ft 8 doesnt generate me much pace or bounce!)

All in all I'm very pleased with mine.

Found out I had to wear glasses around a month before the season started, so I targetted 300 runs in the 2nds. I ended up hitting nearly that in the first 3 games!

Played the rest of the season in the 1's, had a couple of 80's and a 50. Highest run scorer in the club, 620 league runs, highest score in league. Happy days :)
