An interesting point raised by Tom in another topic which i tohught i would bring up here for discussion, it never really crossed my mind that this could be the case, but seems very feasible...

Sanding woods down elk always reduce weight of the blade and therefore change the proportion of weight attributed to the handle and blade. Depending on how much wood is lost you may not notice a change in balance.

It would take alot of sanding to make the pick up feel different I'd think As ur talking of less than an oz in weight!

Being the kit nerds we are on here we magnify the issue somewhat with any slight alteration in our preferred bats weight

yeah i must say it hadnt bothered me or put me off a refurb, was just an interesting point...

I'm going to get some weight taken off my H4L when I hear back from Matt, so I can give a good example when I'm doing nets in November.

We do not recommend a full clean as you can loose up to 2ozs in weight from your bat by doing this.

That's what Warsop told me when I emailed them about refurbing my Canterbury. Subsequently didn't get it done and scored my first ton with it in my next game.

My bats in for a refurb with H4L at the moment, will see if theres any difference in weight/feel when it gets back

Yes. A refurb in its simplest makes a knackered bat look better. A bit of sanding will not effect the performance.

Everything effects the ultimate balance of a bat. Hell, a long innings on a hot day will too.

Doing plenty of refurbs at the moment. Yes they will have a minimal effect on the weight but will make very little difference to the balance of the bat if done properly.

Surely a full face refurb takes weight off of the whole blade evenly, thus keeping the same weight balance

No, because the pivot point lies somewhere between the two hands. Anything lower will (in theory) lead to difference in balance *difference in mass between above pivot point and below it.
