Opinion on the development of New Web site
« on: February 15, 2009, 12:56:59 PM »

Hi Guys,

Just thought i would get the opinion of the forum members,

We are in the process of developing our new web site and i would like to ask Forum members that what sort of things they would like to see on our new web site.
What areas you like on other web sites?

Would appreciate feed back on that

Regards

Asad

Personally I am fed up of the Manufacturer given photos of particular equipment, which are most of the time out of date and so small you cant make them out, so I would suggest real photos which can be enlarged of the main equipment to attract more people and to give them a better idea of what they are purchasing. This may take a bit of time initially, but the upside is that it will subtract from the amount of people you have asking for real photos, due to them being there in the first place. Also lets the customers know that you are updating the site regularly and gives a good impression.

Another thing that I would suggest is a bunch of tick boxes during the purchasing process which allow you to add accessories like bat tape and toe guard and extra grip etc, they will no doubt increase sales of those as well as make them easier to find. I have seen this used before and I admit I have fell into the trap of ticking the box "For the sake of a quid". It works.

On the current site you have Junior and Senior products separated, I would tend to join these like most sites do.

Another idea would be a feedback forum or page, so good reviews can be shown and personally I look at this when deciding whether that site is genuine or not, up to date reviews are important I think.

Atm, the site prices include postage, I would reconsider that, as on first look, it looks very expensive and unless you look deeply, you will not find that prices do in fact include postage. I often entered the site through a Google link to a direct product, so i missed the free postage thing on the home page. Just an idea, or make the fact that postage is free more obvious, i.e after every price on every page.

New logo possibly? I know you have looked into this so no issues here.

Sorry for the rant, and I know I have talked to you about these before, just wanted to get things in this topic moving and for opinions and possibly flaws in my ideas on here.

I think the best thing you can do as an internet (mainly) cricket bat supplier is provide photos of actual bats with details of weights, grains, pressing etc so that internet buyers can make a choice. you cant replace going to the shop but an experienced cricketer knows exactly what they want and what it should look like. So i agree with AtBalfour really.

the above suggestion though a good one, is practically impossible to achieve. At any given point in time, Asad will have at least 150-200 bats. Taking a minimum of 3 pictures per bat gives us 600 pictures to be loaded and kept track of. Asad will need to hire a web coordinator for that which isn't gonna be cheap.

The best would be to ask him for pictures on a case to case basis.

None of the bigger online retailers like Owzat, Pro4, Romida etc, send our pictures on request. They (if you are lucky) simply ask you for your specs and send out the bat closest to your requirements. Mostly one has to call giving a order ref no and ask for a particular type of bat.

Though one option could be to upload all the pictures in a separate folder and give ref no. to each bat (like on L&W forum). A customer can then place a order quoting the ref no. on check-out.

If its one pic per bat why not just use the stock photos?!

Does a real photo not give you a better idea of what the bat will look like in the flesh? The manufacturer given photos really don't do the bat justice in a lot of cases.

If the bat pictured isn't the one you will be receiving then it's the same principle of using the stock photos.

I agree with you but a real picture taken of one bat randomly from the current stock will give some idea what sort of quality, shape of the bat you'll be receiving as manufacturers change shape(profile) as well as the stickers continuously.

Yes thats one thing youre good at, showing photos of the bats themselves
Another thing would be a gallery view of the product's instead of a list (no pics), im sure you will be dealing with this anyway.

thanks
