Victoria vs NSW - Ryobi One Day Cup
« on: October 30, 2011, 07:30:00 AM »

Look at that score :o. Victoria would have felt that 317 was a good score, but then NSW come out and they smash it. They still had another 8.2 overs too, so I reckon they could have easily gotten to 400.

North Sydney oval is always a run fest, even in grade cricket. Nice little ground though, used to walk past it to get to work every day.

I love the tape on the clads! :D - hilarious!

Could any of the Aussies shed more light on this Daniel smith..? He seems a good prospect ESPN said he's scored a lot of F-C runs already this year..? :)

He got a good crack when Haddin was first made Australia's main keeper, and got 500 odd F-C runs @31 and had 33 dismals or something, but since then Peter Neville has taken over and is a better keeper and better batsmen, although Smith is a larger lad and can hit a ball. He hasn't played any F-C cricket this year as Neville has kept in both of NSW Sheffield Shield games so far, and tbh I don't see him getting a go any time soon for the Shield team.

Smith was only playing today because NSW have players with the Aus team in SA and they also have a fair few injuries, so he was lucky to get a game in a away, but he took his oportunity and made it count.

The innings was at North Sydney oval which is one of the smallest fields I have seen top level cricket being played. I'm pretty sure that all the fields I play on are bigger than it. Here is a video of Khawaja getting a 121 on it last season -

Cheers Rob, really informative thanks. Do you reckon he may move next year if he keeps not being played..? Or will he play as a specialist opener?

Btw that Khawaja knock is a really good knock, but as you say that ground is tiny. I might have played on a bigger ground than that myself..some of the flat 6s he hit show it's scarcity!

Guessing, with that game and this, that it's definitely a 320+ ground...?

That's all good. I think he might, seeing as anyone who wants to play for Australia seems to come from or move to NSW, I don't think he will get much of a go. I reckon he may go to SA, WA or TAS, but if he keeps going well and getting a go he may keep playing for NSW. I'd say either WA or Tasmania may be his best shot as Paine will assume th Australian keeping duties once Haddin goes, but he is still nusring a broken finger atm, and once Paine goes there may be a spor for him at TAS and WA doesn't really have any great keepers atm.

I'd say that at least half the fields I play on are bigger than that. On the weekend I played on a field that almost has the same dimensions as the MCG, twas HUGE!

I'd deffinately say so, the power of the batsmen nowadays as well as slight deflections running away for 4 on that field, it would easily be a 320+ ground.

Fair enough, would you class him as a great keeper? How many players in the national team(s) have come from SA, WA and TAS..? Don't know much about Aussie Domestic stuff but you obviously do ;)

It's almost ludricrous they play on that, it's just too easy for the batsmen. I was gonna say that's nothing compared to the MCG! One of these days a team will get 400 on there batting first, I'm sure.

And lol Joe ;)
