What's the best game you have played in?
« on: November 18, 2011, 12:28:18 PM »

As i created the topic im gifting myself two ;)
First: A sunday game against fierce local rivals. We batted first and were hampered by the rain so managed 156(i think) in 30odd overs. They were going swimmingly all the way through untill they got a case of the Saffers and choked in the last 5. It ended up them needing 1 from 1 only for their number 9 to be caught at fly slip and it to end in a draw. Cue scenes of running round the pitch like mad men.

Second: A midweek 15 8 ball overs tournament. They batted first and got a 140odd. Chaseable total. Untill after the 4th over we were 13-5. I come in and its panic stations there heads are high ours are in the ground. First ball i get comprehensivey beaten on the outside edge. Next ball smack a huge six straight down the ground which started a run of 6-7 overs where me and rp27 off this forum have partnership of 73 including 7 sixes. Untill we both got out in quick succession in the 30's. Only for our chairman to come in smack his first 6 in Birmingham (hes originally from Norwhich) and a couple of fours to win the game. Also cued scenes of mass celebration.

A couple of years back played in a corporate warm up match England V Australia at Wormsley. A fantastic place to play and a really great occasion. Main match was played after. Great day!!

This year we we're struggling in the league and had only won twice when we came up against one of the teams we'd beaten earlier in the season. It's safe to say it was a bit of a heated match.

They batted first and hit 219, I caught their best batsmen at 2nd slip in the first over off our quick which absolutely flew to me! So their bat wasn't to happy as he'd scored a bucket load of runs all season. Our skip and I opened the batting and put on 127 for the first wicket, which was pretty good considering we got bowled out below 100 3 times! I was first out trying to up the tempo, we then ground to a halt. I had to go out and umpire as they didn't have one even though it's a league regulation.  Our 8 and 9 were batting and their opener who I caught was bowling and kept getting angry and our batsmen and our umpire who had to put up with a lot that match. Anyway, we were on 213 with one ball left and out number 8 knocked a full toss back over the bowler head for 6, needless to say that shut them up!

Best game is probably versus the Courtney Walsh XI at Melbourne, but also remember the match v Cross Arrows at Lords.

Didn't win either match but both were great games to have the opportunity to play in.

Junior game (under 14's)

We batted first, got skittled for 33 (i made 11 not out having opened- we were 0/3 at the end of the first over with me stranded at the other end)

Bowled them out for 20- my first over was a triple wicket maiden- ended up with figures of 3.2 overs, 2 maidens, 5 wickets for 7 runs.

Never recreated that glory in senior cricket however! :D

Quite a few stick out to be honest, however one this year was incredible. Guy who is usually in 2's is involved in a car crash on the friday night, gets let out of hospital at 2am, plays for the 1's and gets the best 2 batsmen out. Comes into bat at 11 with 30 to win, and knocks 12* to win the game....

Joined the school team a season late as never really saw the fun in cricket, then played it, was stuck at no 11...In my second game Lucked out with a knock of a whopping 24, and on the last ball the oppo needed a single to win, and the ball landed at my feet and I smashed a direct hit from mid on. Lauded a playground hero, and could pick my place in the batting forever more!

This match was I personally found awesome... was great to watch Alvin Kallacharan bat but was even better to get him angry at the end when we won ;)

This was one of my favourites in the league. Chased 292 away to Lansdowne and got them for 2. Ex England Paul Jarvis went for a few...

This was also a fantastic game to play in and do well in. My first cup final for Ilminster. Playing at the County Ground in Taunton. Bowling first and thinking we had blown the game by letting Taunton get 171 and then going out and playing the knock of my life. Never hit a ball cleaner than that day. 42 ball 106no inc 12 sixes and with an over left.

Yes and the other name mentioned for Taunton is quite topical

What the hell is that doing in the Falmouth Packet?! Almost as bizarre as the match itself! Top knock Kieran!
