Crack???
« on: February 21, 2009, 04:29:43 PM »

Hi lads, i was netting last night and i have looked at my bat today and there is a lon crack on the blade 3/4 of the way along the face. Was wondering what i could do about would it help if i put an anti scuff sheet on it to protect it from further damage?

put some super glue in side it , then cut about an inch of the top off an old grip and use it as a vice to hold the bat together by pulling it over the bat from the bottom, if that makes sense... then leave it overnight, and put a scuff sheet on and/or wrap tape around it, should be fine

Similar to what Ian said, if it were me:
1.  I would prize it open slightly (Screwdriver) if its not easily openable
2. Fill with runny super glue
3. Cut a bit of old rubber off a grip and use that so that the clamp doesnt damage the bat.

Just leave it overnight and then wrap a load of tape round and antiscuff. I put some tape under the scuff sheet and some over ;)

Super glue, no no no! Use wood glue.
Well Gary from Redback tells me runny superglue is the best

sand, glue, vice, sand, oil, scuff sheet/tape.
although i would use PVA, when dry it has more elastic properties than most superglues.  meaning the repair will last longer as the glue isn't as brittle and won't crack.

I've found superglue is fine, depends how quickly I need the repair doing as to which glue I use. If it's for use on the the same day I'll use super glue, otherwise Wood/PVA.

What is the general consensus concerning gluing cracks - Is superglue preferred over PVA? I've always used PVA but never really had that much success with it.......is there a secret of the trade when gluing cracks????
