Canterbury Inflatable Gloves with Air-tech...
« on: November 25, 2011, 07:48:11 PM »

These are the gloves from e-bay. They look pretty reasonable and are a comfortable modern design, pretty reminiscent of most that come out of India. No Pittards palms, but that's no big issue. The big selling feature of these originally would have been the air technology, which is an inflatable bag over the back of the glove and the thumb on the right hand, and the back of the hand on the left.

Now, I wondered to myself, how would this affect flexibility of the glove? Badly would be the answer. Due to the effect of having a large balloon on the back of the hand, bending your fingers becomes that much harder, and hence you have to put more effort into gripping the back. No wonder they didn't take off. If they were shaped, like the Aero gloves, this might work a little better, but you still have the issue that any bag into which air is pumped will try and stretch straight.

So now you all know. To be fair, I don't foresee any problems using them without the airsack, but never mind eh! Nice idea. Shame about the mechanics.

Here are the gloves:

Haha Nice to see a few pairs still knocking around...the air in them is about 5mm thick once inflated and shouldn't effect flexion.

They didn't take off as CCC priced them at £75 as a new product in the market :(

They had a pair of these at Owzat, they are weird. Agree with what you say, you really cannot bend your fingers when it's pumped up. They are pretty protective, having smashed my hand with a mallet with them on and you cannot really feel anything.

I bought a pair of Ebay for 17 quid a year ago, pumped them up but it didnt work so  thought sod it and just used them unpumped for a full season. Decent protection and comfy enough to be used regularly but no great shakes.
