Newbery Tour Pads 2012
« on: November 29, 2011, 04:31:06 PM »

Anyone seen these? I was just looking for Newbery pad prices after i found them on ebay, when I came across these:

http://www.owzat-cricket.co.uk/acatalog/2012_Newbery_Tour_wicket_keeping_pads.html

The blurb says they're supposed to be worn under your trousers, as either keeping or fielding pads. Just a gimmick or have Newbery got something here?

Very aero'esque.  They look an updated version of the aegis pads.

Rich, OMF on here has a pair of the Newbery Aegis pads so you could maybe ask his opinion them?

Have seen a few people wear keeping pads under their whites last season.

I suppose these are good as they could be used as fielding pads if in close positions, would be good to see how they are mobility wise.

i'm not sure if i like the idea of wearing them under whites or not. plus side i guess they might last longer but the negative is of course your whites will take all the punishment.

your right your whites will take a battering if you wear the pads underneath, i tried it a few times 2 years ago. found it quite comfy and the pads stayed in place better and felt more secure. but each to their own and opponents tended to mutter the odd word of abuse my way because i was being 'big time'

I used to prefer keeping with no pads on because it was more comfortable. There was some serious abuse thrown my way then.

The only reason anyone ever started keeping with their trousers over their pads is because they didn't have the right coloured pads to match their teams one day kit. So they used their old ones (whatever the colour) and just covered them with their trousers....

Still makes me giggle to see people doing it.......... :D

think i saw Paul Nixon doing it once so gave it a try for a few games, do prefer it aswell but the mother wasnt happy having to do all my washing  :D

i also got told to take them off and wear them properly once by an umpire in a joe lumb game because it was against the rules to have them underneath. in the end i didnt as i was certain it was within the rules and he just let the issue slide

I also did it because my puma flextech straps were hoorendous. I could keep them in place underneath my trousers without them falling off, slipping too much. However, if you dived around they did need readjusting every once in a while and to save me buying some more, I just used none.
