Hattori Help- PICTURES NOW ADDED.
« on: December 19, 2011, 07:13:44 PM »

Hi am going through the process of getting a Hattori.
Having never picked one up etc I'm not sure what weight to specify, I normally use a 2.8.
These look like they have a long middle do may pick up differently to what I have at the moment (m&h solution and a Nitro).
Any suggestions?

Where are you based mate? Could be worth going down to the workshop in Kent and picking the bat up as it is being made etc...only if you're close enough though!

From all the reviews I've seen, the Hattori's pick up a lot better than you'd expect given the middle length + position.

I reckon if you ask for 2.8 dressed you'd be very happy. Alternatively a 2.7 dressed should compensate just in case...though the edges may be slightly smaller.

I must say I was a fan of the Hattori Mad Bobbin had on sale here, that was a stunning bat! :D

Contact Matt and I am sure that he will be willing to offer you some quality advice. After all, he knows the most about the pick up of the bat at different weights.. :)

Hattori (I think) picks up worse than the excel or 666 which I would consider "normal" middle positions. I would go an oz or 2 lighter to allow for a bottom heavy pickup. I will echo Johan here and say for the position and length of middle the Hattori does a great job. If weight is a concern go for a 666/excel as both still have chunky toes and ought to pickup better.

I have recently purchased a Hattori weighing in at about 2.11/12, and find it picks up really well.  In fact it picks up as well as my GM Hero which is 2.10 so I would say go with what you normally use....

It just strengthens the toe

Matt said it was a mixed shape as he had started shaping it for himself hence why mine has a thin toe for a big bat

Bat recieved this morning:

Update on this gents:
Asked for a 2.9, feels like a little bit above that but need to get another grip to better the pick up.
Wasn't too fussed on Edge size, Comes in at 35mm
10 clean strait grains, little bit of staining on the back but not worried about that at all.
Gret response off the mallet.

Have an indoor game this weds night, Too soon to use it?
Also have a coaching session on thurs where I'm hopimng to use it too.

Thanks for everyones help!
