Take II....
« on: March 03, 2009, 06:07:36 PM »

Firstly, this is my second Redback now within a matter of 4 or 5 months and like in my first review I cannot say how great my service from Gary was. In the time I was not buying bats off him he has done a number of refurbs of other bats for me, which all had a top job done on them. I obviously cannot comment on performance of this one as I have literally just opened the box! Have only had a quick tap with the mallet (only lightly though as I don’t want to hurt her, needs oiling first!) but must say with my original Redback that I cannot wait to use it in the season. After knocking in and a few through down in the nets does seem to be a belter of a bat.

Now I already had my Redback which had the Surefire profile so I thought that I would go for the Allegiance one this time. Now after a few air shots with my new bat I probably do prefer the Allegiance shape but only just!  This Allegiance however does have slightly less concaving than normal but I will go on to that in a second.  I wanted the bat around the 2-9/2-10 weight but with a big profile/edges and that is exactly what I got. The bat is 2-9 and edges just under 30mm and the biggest point. Now Gary said that this was a very low density piece of willow, exactly what I was after. That is why there was less concaving as the profile was still able to be kept big! Now when you see this bat I’m sure you will be thinking why is this not an LE grade instead of Premier. It has 17 (more or less straight) evenly spaced  grains with a tinge of heartwood on the inside edge. The reason I was told it was a Premier grade not LE was due to there been a blemish near the top of the blade under the sticker, which you cant even see. So credit for Gary for keeping his grading system fair as in my eyes this could have easily been stickered as an LE.

If you are considering a Redback just give Gary an email, I said this last time but he is great to deal with. You will not be pressured into a buy but he will give you the best options he has available. Like I said last time as well, this will not be my last Redback for sure although I may wait a little longer for me next one!

Now these pictures do not do the bat justice, so if you want anymore ask and I will try my best to get some! And any questions just ask….
