I reckon if Clarke gets to 300 he'll declare. Would love to see him get 400 though. Would also love him to get bowled first ball, the confidence of the Aussie papers is irking me.

Got to say Clarke here, he is one of the senior players in an under-performing team(For the last few years they have been) and is the newly instated captain, there is huge pressure on him to turn the team around and get back to the old, unbeatable days they had in the past. To put that pressure behind him and score big runs regularly is a big achievement.

People were praising Cook as the best batsmen in the world after scoring 290 against India even though he was facing a poor bowling line-up and took 545 balls to score that, Clarke has scored 251* off 342 balls and has faced a better bowling line-up(Cook didn't have to deal with Zaheer Khan..)

I think it might be not only be innings of the year, but possibly innings of the decade.

I went for Ponting, just because of the pressure and form he's been under. Clarke is a good player of spin and has been in good form of late, 4 100s and 1 50 as skipper as well as being let off with a couple of drops. Kallis is quality but the Sri Lankan attack isn't too challenging on a road. Love de Villiers as he makes it look so easy, but same reasoning as Kallis. Sorry manormanic, didn't see yours

Clarke for me, amazing innings so far, some shots were 'Viv like'. This will only be day 3 and the pitch is at its best for batting, I don't see the need to declare before tea, 400 could be on the cards.

RP showed what a champion he is, his recent form is pretty good with a few half century's prior to this ton.

I like Kalis very much, awsome record, but I've never found his batting overly inspirational.

I'd say Ricky Ponting. The guy was written off and everyone wanted him to retire, but he showed his fighting spirit for his 40th test century.

De Villiers was just insane as soon as he reached a ton. 60 in 29 balls.

Let's not forget a very fine innings from Alviro Petersen for SA as well! He was flowing beautifully when I saw him. I think Clarke's innings is the best of the year so far but Petersen deserves some respect too

I really didn't rate that Cook knock tbh. Too slow, unable to go through the gears at any point. Clarke knock a much better one imo, for all the reasons you have highlighted.
