I love the old shape distinctions. I know the newer ones last better...

The 2010 shape was the one I feel in love with and from a nerdy bat point of view has a place in my heart that just made me think 'wow' (I could elucidate the feeling somewhat better if we allowed swearing!). I'll never get that feeling again!

Tbh it was with some trepidation hat I went down to M&H to choose all the gear, knowing that the Distinction I was going to choose wasn't the 'dream' bat I saw originally in a shop in Suffolk...Though on picking up the 2011 model (for the first time in Taunton) I was in no way disappointed as it feels like a 'fuller', more rounder bat. It's also my first super-quality bat (and was a present) so will similarly have a place in my heart. It has 24 arrow straight grains and will always be my number one bat til it dies!

There's probably more fun to be had middling the 2010 model - it has that feeling that it will literally go straight through any fingers so you can be quite brutal with it. If I used it in a match though, I'd probably try an do that on every shot, which is no good for my game.

The 2011 model has enough meat that you can safely remind yourself the boundary rope is only so far away that it's more than powerful enough for anything other than a yardage competition, though I can afford to be a lot more off centre, which is better for me as, for example, I only really scored leg side with crude sweep slogs, and now I can be a touch more measured and can despatch it leg side with significant force at a wider range of lengths.

Dan,

How big a difference are the toe sizes?

Dan,

How big a difference are the toe sizes?

Not sure there is a lot tbh (I haven't got them with me right now)...The first thing I did when I got my old one was to check the integrity of the toe, and it's in perfect condition, so the notion that the old ones were discontinued due to damages to the toe isn't immediately obvious, though the sheer weight at the point 2 inches above it probably puts too much pressure on it.

Johners personally I prefer the profile of the new one, but haven't had the pleasure of using either.

Possibly in a few weeks. My team mate plans to go down to pick a bat up but nothing in concrete yet

I may be getting a used one, waiting to hear how much first.

B'day in march so I may persuade the mrs to put some £££ towards a custom bat making experience.

She thinks English bats cost £100!!!

She knows Lavers cost £50, that's what the invoice for customs says  ;)

This is such a brilliant shape. Why doesnt any other batmaker do something similar or would it be deemed copying the MH profile? It looks a seriously powerful bat!
