Reminds me of playing against Ijaz Ahmed (the Pakistan international) in the Hawke Cup. Now, the Hawke Cup, for those not raised in the wilds of North Yorkshire, was a 20 over competition before they became fashionable, and was played on a handicap basis so that small village sides could compete with decent club sides. My club were on +45 for the game in question, and ran up 161 on the back of a couple of late cameos (I got a punchy 8 off three balls!) so went into the field reasonably confident of defending 207 given our bowling attack had three lads who had played Yorkshire schoolboys, one then current first class player for the Combined Services, a West Indian who was far from slow and a wily old spinner. Fourteen overs and four balls later Ijaz had 171* and it was all over...
