Buzz's topic on duffle bags got me thinking.

I currently have a newbery GT duffle. It's ok, I can just about fit all my gear in. 2 bats, pads, gloves, thigh lads and helmet. However, my ayrtek is kind of squeezed into the top and the grill is marking the top hat of my pads. I don't want to start carrying it separately as it could get damaged.

I was thinking how I would design a duffle for me if I could make one. It would be 3 tier, kind of like the design of a stand up bag but more compact.

It would be square if that makes sense. 2 squares of fabric at either end and 4 rectangles of fabric joining them. The bottom section would have hard wearing material and would be the boot/wet section. It would join by zip into the main middle section.

This middle section would be just long enough to hold a set of pads. This would be the main compartment for your pads, gloves, thigh pads, whites. It would possibly have the 2 outer sides and the floor rigid. This would again join by zip to the top section.

The top section would be for your helmet, a nicely padded section. With a rigid floor and a zip open top.

Not sure how I would work bats into this design.

Humm - I am not that fussy - I just want a duffle bag which is 80cm tall with a 35cm diametre for kit - with an external pocket for keys/parafenalia/sweatbands, a shoe pocket and an internal bat pocket with a single shoulder strap (possibly like the BAS on I have that can be unzipped and made into a ruck sack type bag if you need to cycle with it.)
It would help if it was relatively plane and not neon green...!!

I want one with a helmet compartment so mine doesn't damage my pads anymore!

this is true - but I put my lid at the bottom of my bag and carefully put the pads around them to avoid damage. I might try having shoes at the bottom this season and lid in last on the top, that might also work.

The thing about the bag you have suggested is that is effectively the aero bag with shoulder straps rather than a duffle bag...

to be honest looking at the specks, I think if it wasn't green the Kook one would be almost perfect for me... if only it looked like the salix one... or if only the salix one was smaller

Got the Newbery one for this season and I reckon its about as good as you could reasonably get - it isn;t as big as my AERO but, erm, I don't think I'd want it to be if the truth be told!

Yeah, when I finished I looked at it and realised it would work better as a wheelie bag. How about one of these laid down with wheels, so a normal soft coffin with 3 sections and 2 different entry points on the lid.

I't thinking I might go back to my wheelie bag now I'm netting weekly, will be getting the salix pod one bag soon enough

I think there is a gray nics pro performance one that has a separate helmet compartment - I was tempted by it last year but I wasn't sure id fit whites and other stuff in it so ended up with a wheelie bag.

I've still got a woodworm duffle that I use for nets but when I've tried to use it for games I've had the same problem as you and had to cram stuff in to just about get it to fit with my lid sticking out of the top. I used to end up carrying my pads separately in the bag they came in.

I always thought that the duffle bags were really only for training and where you needed to be able to carry less stuff.

I've a Slazenger V90 Duffle that I got for �9 off ebay. It has enough room inside for kit, a large outer pocket for whites, keys, guff, and a bat pocket. It also has two narrow straps that can be worn as one (but no zip) or a rucksack. Works very well in my opinion!

How much can you carry? Well, with two of the them I carried 6 bats, my training kit and shoes, full protective gear (including Ayrtek), laptop, keys, phones, cameras and sandwiches and had plenty of space to put the super large thigh pad afterwards to the last batoff.

would be interested to know if the Salix and kookaburra duffles are big enough for cricket equipment (incl 2 bats), whites, toiletries, training gear and towel...both are similar in size but the Salix design looks good imo

Just thought of showing this here just incase anyone is planning to buy one of these woodworm pro duffle bag.They are massive
with 2 bat sleeves and 3 separate compartments in addition to the main.The built is quite good too.
