Wicket Keepers Spike
« on: January 21, 2012, 01:18:48 PM »

Just wondering what the general type of Spikes other Keepers Wear?
I currently have a pair of Asic's which are Half Spike, I find this most suited for Keeping and Batting..
Any other Opinions Will be gladly welcomed....  :)

Full Spike for me, but this is just personal preference, in my opinion.

Pretty sure the same sort of results would be obtained for batting, though I am guessing slightly...

Can't think of any keeper who would use rubbers..

I kept in trainers for the majority of last year, unless it had been raining. Much more comfortable. Will probably get a pair of trainers spiked up for this season.

I don't think I'd like to keep in trainers - too much chance of getting hit on the toes! And how would I make my marks with no spikes?!  :D

I've never been hit on the toes nor hard to mark where I stand. Get stood up to the stumps!

i stand up where possible, and thats when I need my marks the most! i mark middle stump and then a line about 2 feet back from the crease which is where i take my position.

Is that really necessary? If you didn't make a mark would you end up fielding at mid-on?! haha!

We hosted some youth league cup finals at our ground last year and one of the keepers made these marks, left an enormous trench about 3 foot long on one of the pitches, was not impressed!

I use halfs, I used to use Full spikes but I tumbled awkwardly taking one down leg side and cut a chunk of skin out of my calf with the rear spikes. That's just me being clumsy though :-[

totally necessary, it's an exact measurement of the right distance to give me the maximum reaction time while still being able to take the bails off at arm's length!

otherwise i'd be constantly re-checking my position.
