Iverson-Gleeson Doosra
« on: January 22, 2012, 11:20:03 AM »

After watching Ajmal mesmerise England, I decided to give up my mediocre fast bowling and become a mystery spinner :D  I can bowl a leg-break, a flipper, zooter, off spinner but not a doosra. Until today I came across a different method of a doosra. It involves a bent middle finger with straightens upon delivery as the hand turns in an orthodox off spin way. So the middle finger turns the ball from leg to off while the hand turns from off to leg. Genius!

Ravi Ashwin bowls that one I think, easier to coach possibly as well. Sounds similar to the carrom ball that mendis bowls. A tad easier than having to dislocate your shoulder as well lol.

I nearly sussed the left armer version of the doosra, the trick is the impart spin in the opposite dirction using the middle finger - easier said than done without rotating the wrist into a chinaman.

The zooter is one that doesn't spin at all. Not front, back or anything. The slider is a topspinner that goes high and then accelerates off the pitch. I've also managed to come up with a ball that leg spins and keeps very low by spinning backwards and to leg. Very hard to bat against - I don't have a name for it though :D

it may help to use the finger next to your little finger more than the middle finger, likewise drag the thumb down under the ball.

But you aren't explaining how you do it- thought spinners were supposed to share their secrets?! I was under the impression that the topspinner dipped and bounced because of overspin, wheras slider slid on without the bounce of a topspinner. I'm pretty sure the zooter is the the same thing as the slider and Warne used the different names as kidology to get into batsmens' heads!
