The shot that shoots you
« on: February 05, 2012, 08:45:05 PM »

What is the one shot which you just cannot get right? The shot that gets you out and is your Achilles heel and you would like to perfect? What problems do you face while executing it? Discuss.

For me it has always been the sweep shot. It does not get me out though as I don't play it at all in games being quite aware of my limitations. I prefer using my feet by going down the track but sweeping--never!

can't cut. Don't get low enough when cutting spinners and miss it every time, it causes problems. I was batting against chief dobby spinner of dobsville and he bowled 3 overs of short and wide stuff, each of which I played and missed at.

Couldn't say based on last year as it was any shot >:(

Probably pull shot as first instance is to play forward/drive.  Cant work it out as have been ok at pull when had beamers.

Your back foot might move closer to the ball perhaps?

The pull shot.............it is my get out every time shot........always find myself being caught in between the front and back foot. Would just love to be able to play it off the front foot like KP.

But the hook this is a great shot for me.........may be because you can read it better when they are going to properly bang it in short at you?

Trust me, I know exactly how to do it (have practised with throw downs, been coached) but just cannot do it in games.

Used to be able to cut and not pull, other way round now for some reason. I've become very wristy in my cut shots and more guide the ball as opposed to strike it. I think using a 2.14 bat before may have been the reason I couldn't pull/hook.

May be you are just trying too hard in games rather than go on instinct??

I understand bud; a bit like my sweeping. Just cannot keep my head still and crouch and move my feet and get into position in time----just too many stuff to execute at the spur of the moment.

It is annoying though, I have taken to just punching it with a straight bat.

Can't sweep either btw :D

Is it bad to say every shot ;)

Had a problem with falling over last year but that was some advice I followed but did not work out but sorted now I hope

Maybe right as last year made a good start to innings as opening bowler insisted on coming back to me first ball banged in short disappeared over square leg, didn't bounce me again.

Short ball at the head everytime! Stick Cricket style!!

I have had numerous net sessions on it and yep all fine.... game time all over the shop!

Half of problem is that I want to always play off the front foot

Sweep is at leats part premeditated in my book.  went through a stage of sweeping but now prefer to try & drive down the ground

Thankfully i'm a very good sweeper of the ball.

I used to play the cut shot well but could not even hit one last season.

I find trying to drive the ball back past the bowler on the ground difficult, i always seem to offer a c&b rather than it going past the stumps and crossing the ropes. shame cos when i've got it right it feels so good and on T.V it always look sso good.
