This is a brief review of the bat I purchased from BlankBats last week. Having spoken to Tai a while back about getting a bat from him in the future, BB was my first port of call when I was ready to buy. He told me that he had something special that was based on the shape of a Series 1 SCat
From speaking to him in the past I would say that he is a man who knows his bats and I have to say that it felt good to be able to speak about any issues on the phone rather than the emails and receptionist messages that I've had from more established companies when buying bats in the past. After speaking with him extensively over the phone and via the forum I decided on a bat and paid for it last Wednesday (1st Feb) afternoon. The bat arrived on Friday morning packaged in bubblewrap inside a bat-box. Included inside were 2 grips and an anti-scuff sheet. The bat is very well finished and fitted with a toe-guard.
I was told that this bat wasn't the prettiest I'd ever see but that these bats were selected on performance, and as you can see, this doesn't have the 10+ ruler straight grains that most people are after. I was also told that if I wasn't happy with the bat I could return it for a full refund, which gave me peace of mind on that front.
On my scales this bat weighs a smidgen under 2.11 with the toe-guard and chevron grip on it. It is fitted with an oval handle that thickens slightly on the bottom hand (correct me if I'm wrong there BB!) The pick-up is unbelievable for the amount of wood that is there. As you can see the edges are between 29 and 30mm at their thickest point, which is quite remarkable for a mid-weight, traditionally shaped bat with no concaving. The spine is huge
The bat has been sat soaking up oil since it arrived, I've been waiting for a teammate to return my mallet anyway but I'll add some info about how it taps up when I get it back. A full review will follow after the bat is knocked in and the season starts but at the moment I have to say that I'm very happy with what I got for my money and the customer service offered by Tai was excellent. For the record, I'm sure that Canners is just as knowledgable, I just didn't deal with him on this occasion!
