What about a more traditional steep spine with the focus on a larger hitting area down the blade? Edges wouldn't be massive but you'd get a bat with a very forgiving and large middle

Seconded!  ;)

Something different - i don't necessarily know what, but just something different. Something that stands out. I'm not talking the edge or MMI. If i knew the answer id make it myself lol. I think its all well and good bringing out an old classic but that's very much the way GN are going.

Sorry that's not really much help.

I think you have to bring back or rather create a classical English cricket bat like the Newberry Mjolnir and call it the PURIST!!!!

All excellent comments,

So whats more important -

Big edges
Big profile (spine)
Weight
Swell position

Or a combination of all of the above (I think that's what I have been designing over the last 5 years, well I hope anyway  ;) ), bearing in mind if you have big edges and big swell - it normally comes with a bigger weight tag!!

What are peoples thoughts on concaving?
Big toes / thin toes
Big shoulders / thin shoulders
Skinny edges VS Big Spine

Come on - blank canvas - if you were the designer what would you design?

I think you could cover this off in a matrix. People want a combination of the following things:
Big Edges/Lower Spine          Big Spine/Smaller Edges
High Middle
Low Middle

I complete range for me has one bat in each quadrant

I know this is about design but would you mind if we ask the members their opinions about GM pressing and if they will have some suggestions on that regard as to how or to what degree will they like their bat pressed. I don't want to derail the thread so am respectfully asking your permission to throw this question into the middle.  :)

I think GM produce very good bats. However, they don't have an "attention grabber" - something that makes you go wow. An extreme big edge bat (tendulkar shape?) or a distinction spine would give this wow. Regarding the trends on profiles, I think this forum is more clued up than most punters, so the answers might not be the same as the average buyer. For me a big edge (35mm) helps my timing but I've been equally happy with 25mm, if the middle is less concaved and a higher spine. I'm not sure big toes or lower middles make much difference apart from wrecking the pickup. Thinner shoulders does make sense as I think GM puts a little too much weight/edge into the top of the bat - but that would of course hurt the pickup unless the spine was higher.

Given the Icon was the bigest selling bat last season for at least two retailers (Romida and Owzat?) surely that is a stand out bat?
having said that I do know what you mean
