Hi guys,

I have a couple of new bats I want to start preparing for the new season...

Normally I apply a light oil and then clear anti scuff but wondering if that's truly needed. i.e. the need for oil when apply anti scuff?

Also any benefit to using wax rather than oil?

I don't rate batwax highly as it is rubbish in my opinion. It turns your bat yellow.

However, we are talking about face oiling so I'll say purpose of oil and scuff is really same. Both are basically used to prevent bat from drying out.

used it on all my referbs none have been yellow ?

oiling a bad makes it go darky/yellow anyway

I just have a very light covering on the bat then a hammer edge on my bats and oil the apply a second coat of oil to the rest of the bat. Simple enough really and I just prefer it that way. Never used bat wax

I used the Salix one not sure if there is difference in that and others but mine turned yellow.

It's actually the Salix wax I was considering...

In my mind anti scuff is more for reducing damage to the wood than retaining moisture.

Many bat manufacturers say there is no need to oil bats if an anti scuff is being fitted

ahhh never tried the actuall bat wax,
me and ryan just use bees wax

i use the salix one and it seems ok. just quick and easy. little bit rubbed in using your fingers then wipe of the excess with a cloth. most bats wont need much oil anyway.

i tend to oil/wax let it dry then fit a scuff sheet and then a very light coat to the rest of the bat. so 1 and a half coats really. seems to do the job.

I've got some Salix wax and have only used it a little on the toe of a couple of bats so far (they came with a scuff shield on so no other oiling/waxing needed).  Seems easier to apply than oil but I have noticed it stains the bat more of a yellow colour than oil does - just based on the bits I've done.

But maybe I've put too much on.

Equal parts of bees wax, linseed oil and mineral spirits (turpentine). Melt the bees wax in a pot within a pot of water then mix equal parts linseed oil and mineral spirits.
