England v Windies
« on: March 27, 2009, 04:19:45 PM »

Anybody else watching the england match......boys are doing us proud again   :o!!! I'm thinking the SA v AUS match is going to a little more exciting and enjoyable to watch......i hate having to watch flintoff stroll out to the wicket and watch through my hands as his innings fails miserably....again.....and again....and again!!!

Have seen updates on the BBC website and it is just depressingly the same thing again and again. This consistent selection nonsense would make sense if we were winning but isn't it time to give people like Denly and Key to name but two a go?

I'm afraid it would appear that those faces do not fit! Lost another wicket by the way! It's hard to say where the problems are.....but normally revolves around the lack of runs rather than the bowlers not pulling their weight.....who else would you be looking to include and who would go?

Can't believe another one has gone! Since Trescothick has retired we have missed someone to get on with it early doors as Ron Atkinson would say and although I am a fan of Foster, I don't see what Mustard did wrong when he opened up so he might be worth another look. Also not sure why Rashid is there if they aren't going to consider him as surely must be worth a look!

You have to give people a go who are better than what you have already got...

Who would you change out of the odi top 7? not too many i wouldnt imagine

My definites would be shah, pietersen, collingwood, bopara, flintoff. strauss is captain so has to play, remains to be seen whether he will last.

Key and Denly have just come from poor Lions tours, denly especially couldnt score a run. The lions are suppose to be the england second XI and they didnt win a game on there tour!

I know Tresco cant tour, but it would be good to see him play in the England shirt for domestic matches, but England just do not operate like that! It will be interesting to see whether Vaughan will be able to regain some form and challenge for a place. The reason we see a lack of players challenging for the England spots is because the top run scorers in domestic cricket tend to be overseas players. Some people may laugh but Peter Trego had a fantastic year with bat and ball but he would never be considered.

Not being funny, but Strauss may have got a ton in the last game, but he's not an ODI opener.

If you look around at the best sides, India (Sachin + Sehwag), South Afica (Smith + Gibbs/Amla) etc. One opener is a dasher and the other can play the inns builder role, not saying Sachin and Smith can't hit out.

But England have two inns builders, this is where the problem starts.

Bopara shouldnt look to be an innings builder, he should have a licence. He strikes the ball cleanly enough!

Fair point SoS, but Bopara's natural game isn't about smashing bowlers around. Players like Sehwag and Gibbs are natural at smashing it over the top etc.

England are playing awfully at the moment, however at the same time i'm hoping that this is signalling the rise of the West Indies as a more competitive team in world cricket, i know they are far from there glory days but i think cricket is more enjoyable when there is a strong west indian side! I'm sure that everyone will disagree with this rather tenuous point!

I agree SillyShilly, I want to see a strong Windies side, I love them so much. I used to break my heart to see the team capitulate usually around Lara.

England make it hard to support them. Surely we have stronger ODI players in the county setup???

fair play to the windes but come on after the first 3 people being out trying to pull silly shots and too slow to hit them you would have thought someone would have said just stay there for a while!!! Its all well and good bangin runs on the board but no-one or look like they were going to. So  why ? who you bring in?? anonther off day?
This is watchinh the same players waiting to come good and relying on the same people to perform each game!
