You had to be up there in the first place fella!
We were lucky that the top side had a slightly weaker side than usual, and we seemed to have a very strong side that day so was an easy win.

Same happened in the 1st XI on Saturday - we took a resonably decent side and played team who just earned promotion to OCA league 1.
But we bowled them for 155 and knocked them off in 35th over and 3 wickets down.  8)

only played Sunday for my old farts friendly team. Batted first on a used crumbling deck and were shot out for 97. The oppo discovered a patch half way down the deck where the ball would shoot and cut in. The oppo used it pretty well, mainly because they couldn't hit a length consistently. 4 of us batsman were done in identical fashion bowled :-( Oppo didn't have too many problems knocking the runs off as we tried to bowl properly lol. Though our lack of pace and use of an old ball didn't help!. I picked up 2-16 including a guy bowled to a delivery pitching leg hitting off, pretty rare I get that much turn but the track was very worn!.

On paper, we put out our strongest team we've had all year. Unfortunately that bit of paper wasn't the score book and we managed to lose a must win game - bowled out for 116 and they knocked them off for 4.

The result means we are 2nd from bottom and in a relegation spot.  Fortunately we do have a chance of escaping as the 2 teams above us both play each other - so we need to make sure we win.

As skipper I resisted the opportunity to put 1st teamers in this week, but I think this week I might have to bow to pressure.

It's fair to say my first season as skipper hasn't been what I thought it would be. On a personal note I'm winning bowling & batting averages, but don't feel I deserve them in the position the team is in.

Got ran out on 16 by my vice captain, he skys a ball to mid on for a regulation catch, mid on drops it, he shouts yes at me (why I ran I had no idea) Mid on had both ends available but chose to go for me running to the strikers end....run out on 16. Totally gutting way to end a shambolic season.....

not counting my chickens but I may have another 3 sundays and a game on the 29th September to look forward too. Could do with a few Saturday friendlies if anybody is short in the warwickshire/oxfordshire area. With all the rain it feels like the season has barely started.

Well what a weekend.

Saturday- Clinched the WEPL Bristol and Somerset Division by beating Bristol West Indies by about 150 runs. I only scored 4 before getting my middle stump knocked back 3rd ball!

Sunday- After a very heavy night celebrating on Saturday, we had the South West Regional finals day of 'Last Man Stands' cricket, we won all 3 games beating teams from Wiltshire, Bristol and another team in Somerset, and became South West champions! Now playing in the finals day in Liverpool in 3 weeks time!

8 ducks, 2012 is a season for you to forget.

Played our last League match today, needed to win to clinch the championship, which we did in style.  Batted first on a damp green wicket, managed to score 208-8, then bowled the opposition out for 22.  So in two consecutive Sundays we won the league and the Cup.  Not bad for our first season.

Ended the season with an average of 44.25 thanks to a few not outs at the end.
Cant wait to next year!!!

Well done Jason! You've definitely got to come down for a net again sometime so some of that skill can rub off on me! My season is over, top score of 88. Average of about 28. Not good at all! We did get promoted though......came second in the league but it happened to be in the year of restructuring so a top half finish would have sufficed....takes the shine off it a bit really!

Like a lot of others I hardly feel as if the season ever really got started...I barely played 2 games in a row all summer... :(

Yeah Neston is a great ground with a fantastic new pavilion, cost 800k I was told. It's not in Liverpool but on the Wirral which is the other side of the River Mersey, beautiful place looking over towards Wales.

So we finished this season knowing that relegation was confirmed for both out first and second teams. However, we had our second team final on the sunday to look forward to to try and end a bad season well.

The first team played against the only team below us on Saturday and with people dropping out due to our relegation we arrived with 9 players, quickly increasing to 10 due to a couple of phone calls. After being asked to open the batting (first time all season) I decided just to bat for as long as possible. I got 95 off 130 balls, and although it is my highest score it was certainly not anywhere near my best innings. Still it was nice to get 95, although obviously disapointing to miss out on a maiden ton. We set a relatively competitive 196 to win off 45 overs. They fell pretty short only managing 130.

So on the Sunday we had out second team cup final, and I was one of the first teamers lucky enough to be selected. To get to the cup final we had: a 1st round bye, a second round rain affected win, a quarter final coin toss win, a semi final win against 7 players so to say we had been fortunate is an understatement.
We were however up against one of the best teams in the past few years who have been rising rapidly through the leagues, Godolphin CC (owned and bankrolled by Sheik Mohammed). To put it in perspective they have the Lords groundsmen relay their pitch every year and tend to it 2 or 3 times a season.
However, the game was played at one of the Cambridge college grounds, however the used pitch was a long way short of what we expected of it and the outfield was relatively slow. We batted first and compiled 145 all out in the last over, and we batted horribly slowly, our opener making 46 in 36 overs. I got a quickfire 21 before trying to up the pace and getting bowled. When we came out to bowl they got off to a flying start, with 41 on the board before 3 wickets left them 44-3 off 6. A small partnership followed but another flurry of wickets left them 105-6 off 27. However, their captain batted with fantastic control to see them through. However, at 115-6 their number 8 snicked off but didnt walk and the umpire didnt hear the snick. This left a rather sour taste in our mouths but then again it may not have made a difference.
