Lower Back

Need some basic exercise options/regimen without weights to strengthen the lower back. Have been feeling a bit more uncomfortable recently in the left lower back region when I am batting for a longer time. Any advise or links will be greatly appreciated.

you need to be doing plenty of core work and stretching

pilates and yoga work is meant to be excellent for people with back troubles

look also technically at your stance, are you bending at your hips properly and are you hips and shoulders aligned.

I also have lower back problems, I dunno if it was because I bowled a fairly long spell at nets after being out for some time, but I've rested it, deep heated and now looking to make my core stronger! :)

Interesting point Buzz. Could you please elaborate on this a bit more when you get the time?

Here is a very short video shot in my friend's phone. Dunno whether it will help though. Looking at it I have straightened my backlift a bit.

Use a foam roller for your back, it works for me is more of a massage thing though so wont stop the problem reoccuring.

Cricket is something where there is always going to be a strain put on your core through all the movements so improving core muscles would help a lot as well :)

I have suffered for so many years with back pains. What ever you do, do not ignore the pains.

Go to see an Osteopath, tell them the problems you encounter, they will give you a 'hard' massage. Then they will give you the correct exercises in conjunction where the pain lies in your back.

they also looked at the footwear i used for training, cricket and general use. They did not recommend the Adidas stan smith trainers i wear as there was no cushioning in the sole. My Asics spikes were given the ok as they have gel lining, but had to buy a pair of Nike running training trainers for training and general walking the dog. I can feel the benfits of a decent cushioned shoe to be honest on my back.

firstly, I think your technique looks solid. with your back, my suggestion is that you might want to try and stand a but taller and straighten you back a little.

because of the way you stand you look as if you are a little hunched and on your heals.

it might help, it worked for canners and fattuscattus

I  too have been having lower back pain while batting in the nets. I am trying on a weight training belt while batting today to see if it helps. My fitness plans have gone downhill after a decent start.

the one thing that worked for me is hyper-extended reverse sit ups, basically, you lie face down over the edge of a flat surface so that your top half is hanging off the edge, get someone too hold you feet if you need to, and basically  sit up backwards, sorry for the poor explanation, I will post a vid if you need me to, hope this helps though

On that exercise how many sets and reps do you do?

I normally do between 12-15 and 3 sets.
I hold a 5 or 10kg plate to increase resistance too
