As everyone knows we had a batoff up north, it was a good opportunity to meet other forum members/ cricket nuts and to check out some very nice kit!

However, as the season is approaching I'm looking at improving my batting as I'm sure everyone else is. I've been in touch with the coaching guru (Buzz) and asked him to take a look at my technique (yes I think I have one :p).

Here are his comments,

"From what I have seen you have a very relaxed simple and free technique, which I suspect must infuriate your team mates. You clearly pick up the line and length early. Which means that tinkering with how you play may be detrimental.
If I were you I would think about tightening up a little, by which I mean getting across to the line of the ball better, so you can play the ball more under your eyes and try to hold your shape a bit more, so stay in position through the shot.
Still whatever you do don't over complicate the way you bat."

So my question is, what are everyone else thoughts ? I always find I get carried away sometimes, so I agree with what buzz is saying about need to tighten up.

I know simmy and PW will agree with my when i say that in the past I've tried to be too technical in my batting but over the last two seasons I've been more focused in putting ball on bat (no matter how ugly it looks) and it seems to have been working for me.

I think players can get too obsessed with technique, even the pros with Alistair Cook springing to mind. He had a nightmare a few years back until he decided to concentrate in putting bat on ball.

From what I remember you looked ok

Only thing I'd say is (whether it was intentional only you would know) but you play a lot of drives in the air as you hit ball in front of your pad ie a little early and watching vids looks like you don't commit forward or back just stay in middle and use hands which can work but depends what your looking to improve

Thanks roco, i think driving through the air is a bad habit Ive got in to. Its normally a safe shot for me, i think with it being the batoff everyone wants to feel bat on ball so its probably worse case.

As a bowler, your back lift looks frightening haha! looks like you're going to try to smash everything. Looks like it works though

Yeah I was trying to smash a little too much hence my wavy cut shot things but if you drive like that in a match in guessing you get caught a lot but if it works great

What are you hoping to improve on

I'm hoping to improve on my balance as well as the mental side tbh. Just want to be more consistent and spend more time at the crease. Oh and try and bat in the nets like I do in games.

Has anyone got any tips on how to keep concentration?

With your balance bend knees little more may help may not

With concentration I've known people count to tens in runs as helps them or check field every ball but whatever works for you I just switch off completely between balls then helps me concentrate when ball comes

With concentration I know I'm not concentrating when I'm not watching the ball from the hand of the bowler, I just always make sure I'm doing that, seems to help

I got in to that last year but i have a tendency to forget lol

I don't think the Batoff net is the best scenario to assess your technique. I'd get Simmy to take his zi8 to your club nets and film you batting against proper bowling
