It's just Cricket - knocking in service
« on: April 16, 2012, 10:45:38 PM »

Used Paul's services to knock in 2 new bats recently. £15 plus return postage and the bats were oiled, knocked in by hand, edge tape and full scuff added.

Really quick service - average 1 week turnaround.

Cheers.

Thanks - glad you liked the service! Yes, we pride ourselves on being quicker and cheaper than any other company around for this particular service and it's pleasing that a satisfied customer like you can testify to this.  If only it didn't make our arms ache so much, though!!

Hi Paul,

How long do you knock the bats in exactly?

Hi Gareth, it depends if the bat has been pre-prepared or not.  If it has, then about an hour and a half.  If not, around four hours.

As you guys grow (which I hope as you deserve it) do you reckon you could warrant the £15.00 for four hours work?

Not many people have the time or willingness to sit down for 4 hours to prepare their bat/s. They are taking this workload off you so you can spend more time working and earning money or socialising. Just think this costs £3.25 per hour whereas the national minimum wage is £6.08 per hour so you could be earning money while you have your bat professionally prepared for you, win win.

I would also like to vouch for Paul, Having a bat knocked in now and have had a very good experience with Paul so far. I would recommend getting Paul to do it if you don't want to do it yourself! Its worth the money

Keep up the good work Paul

It's not just me (Paul), but our very able team here just love knocking in bats! Especially Bilal, he treats them all like a work of art, so £3 per hour doing something we love that helps our customers seems to work for us! Besides, we all know how unreliable machines are when it comes to knocking in bats, especially with the work they do on edges!! You could pay £25 for a machine or £15 with us...

Hi Paul, What's your turnaround at the minute buddy? I've got a nice new Chase I wasn't planning on rushing on until my other bat gave up the ghost on Saturday? As I'm London based you're in an ideal location for me.

As you are so local, we could turn it around within 4-5 days.  A week is the average, but that often includes delivery time to and from the shop.  As we do knocking in on Saturdays and Sundays, you can include these within the 4-5 day estimate, so if we got your bat on Friday, we could most likely have it ready for you by Tuesday.

It's Bilal here aka Bil!

Paul, has mentioned a well understated fact here!

Knocking in by machine is good only in the mid 1/3 of the cricket bat.
As, the machine can not go all out near the bottom two and a half inches, along with the edges.
As a result, these are poorly completed areas and ironically the areas that need the most attention.

Rule of thumb! Knocking in by hand is always more preferred and of much better quality.
To use an analogy here, compare most of the machined good with goods made by hand.
Generally, goods made by hand such as luxury cars, hand bags, watches and most importantly Cricket bats are of much better quality. Similarly, knocking in by hand is much better!  ;)

Hope that clears any misconceptions... :)

With regards to the comments from A-Swin-And-A-Miss! on costing...
We @IJC pride ourselves at delivering great quality customer service.
And, part of running a cricket business involves knocking in cricket bats, hence enjoy the service and don't worry about the wage rates involved in knocking in your cricket bat  8).
