ICC Americas T20 and Women's Cricket
« on: April 22, 2012, 06:51:34 PM »

Leggie29 – Hi all, delighted to be part of this exciting group of cricket lovers. My name is Kamna, I’m a cricketer on the Canadian National Women’s team representing Canada at the ICC Americas tournament that starts on April 23 in the Cayman Islands.

I’m originally from India so cricket’s always been a huge interest. My introduction to cricket was quite informal; I didn’t really have a coach and like most kids, I grew up playing with the boys in my locality on the streets of Mumbai. I guess I just picked up the game by copying them and watching a lot of the matches on TV. Many years later when I moved to Canada, I wanted to take up a sport and was really happy to learn that there was some cricket action for women here. I signed up with a club last summer and played in all of the league games. Ever since, it’s been a really exciting journey. Then there was an invite from the coach of the National team to try out. It’s been about 5 months of training with the national squad and here I am, one day away from making my international debut. I’m a leg spin bowler and my favorite player is Shane Warne. Although, I’ve loved the game as a spectator, now that I play it I love all its intricacies and nuances. I’m completely hooked onto it like a drug and now I just can’t stop playing it. It has made me a better person in every way.

Over the course of this tournament and beyond, I’ll be sharing our experience on this tour. This game with all its rigors and challenges will test us in more ways than we can ever imagine and I’d really appreciate your input and advice along the way. I’d like to sign off with this video introducing you to the Canadian Women’s team. Thank you so much for taking the time and for supporting women’s cricket.

great to have you blogging here.

Canada have had the best start possible, winning their first 3 games against Brazil, Bermuda and the hosts Cayman Islands.

Forum member Kamna took 3 for in her debut international, and now has a tally of 7 wickets in the 3 games.

None of Canada's opponents in the 3 games have scored over 100 runs so far, so either their Canadian team is very good, the othe rteams are really bad or a mixture of the two.

But regardless, well done Kamna, I'm sure you put in lots of hardwork to be where you are and I wish you plenty of success in the future.

It's really interesting to see how widely cricket is played ... I wouldn't have guessed that Brazil had a national women's team

Great to see Canada doing so well.  A few of the girls are using L&W bats and seem to be enjoying them - especially good friend of the company Maree Wilson who opened the batting in the first two games!

We're keeping up to date with it over here - it's great to see cricket being played all over the world!
