Shop Visit Last Month
« on: April 22, 2012, 07:38:04 PM »

Finally I've got round to reporting on my visit to see Asad last month, normally I wouldn't even consider buying a bat off the shelf but having heard such universally ringing endorsements of his wares I was really excited about having a look around and swishing a few (hundred) bats. And boy was I not disappointed. I went in looking for one bat and ended up walking out with two. Before I get into the bats themselves just a word on the shop and the service, Asad and his two lads are very knowledgeable, affable and accommodating, I spent several happy hours in there just talking bats, unwrapping bats, malleting bats, until I found the two I really wanted. I even bumped into Pete Hosk and Fattus which was a pleasant surprise and got to see the almost pornographically grainalicious BAS Hosk was picking up; as well as some of his own bats that were lurking around the shop desk. So suffice it to say that if you are going off the shelf you cannae go wrong with Uzi Sports.

Onto the bats themselves...

I went in looking for a Salix, I've been thinking of getting one for a long time and I decided to go for their top bat to see if they live up to the hype, but the GN Scoops just really appealed to me as well. I picked up one of the ones Asad had specially made and it just felt so right I knew it was coming home with me immediately. So here is what I picked out. A Salix Pod Players with 10 lovely grains weighing in at 2.9 fully dressed and a GN100, slightly less pretty with 8-9 grains and also weighing 2.9. Sorry for the rubbish pictures my camera is dead so its iPhone all the way...

in terms of performance its early days for both bats, neither was an immediate flyer out of the blocks like some bats can be but they tap up very well and pick up is terrific. I think it may just take a little time and leather on willow to get them to open up. At the moment the GN is really beginning to stand out. It seems to have come on a lot during my last net session and the ball was just flying off it. I'm still waiting for the Salix to come to life so I'm reserving judgement for the time being but I have high expectations I'm hoping it it will live up to.

So I'll just close by saying thanks for the top service Asad, I'll certainly be back in the future.

haha I refused a cup actually! My mouth was already watering from the bats. And Wilks I'm with you mate, I'm completely in love with my Scoop. Its a little slice of genius. Some people don't like the sound it makes but its music to me, a really resounding crack, not the hollow whump I'd been lead to believe they produced.
